Happy Birthday United States Coast Guard
4 August 1790, Congress authorized the building of ten cutters to enforce the first tariff laws passed by Congress. 4 August is celebrated as Coast Guard Day to honor the establishment of the Revenue Cutter Service.

Happy Birthday Coasties. Always enjoyed chowing down in your Galleys.

4. You have to be 6 feet tall to join the Coast Guard, so you can walk home if the ship sinks.

Happy Birtday, USCG, Godspeed guardsmen. :patriot:

6. Semper Paratus to my Dad ...
... and the rest of his buddies from the "Hooligan Navy" in WWII.

Second the motion on USCG galleys as having the best food in all the services.

They did North Atlantic convoy duty in WWII making the run from New England and Norfolk to Murmansk escorting Liberty Ships by way of Iceland to avoid the U-Boat wolf packs in ships designed for shallow water work with 3 and 5 inch guns and a couple of dual .50's for AA work that were added as an afterthought. Some of them had depth charges, but no launchers, so they rolled those 55 gallon drums full of explosives off a couple of planks on the stern and hoped the fuses worked right so they didn't blow the stern off their own ships.

I saw this note and called the old boy to let him know so he can fly his USCG flag on his flagpole with pride.
