GOP still speaking on floor despite recess
GOP still speaking on floor despite recess

Republicans continued their call Monday for a vote on expanded domestic drilling from the floor of the shuttered House, which is on recess.

At a press conference, lawmakers said they’d continue to give speeches on the need for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to bring back the House and allow a vote on expanding domestic drilling. The speeches are being given to visitors in the gallery, but are not being televised by C-SPAN because of the recess.

Republicans launched the impromptu effort on Friday with the House formally on recess. As a result, C-SPAN cameras did not televise the speeches, and even the lights were turned off at one point.

It's not clear how long the House GOP floor action will take place, although lawmakers hinted that the protests would keep going. Pence said Monday's action was "the beginning of a sustained effort" to get Pelosi to bring up a vote on expanded drilling.

We are in an illegal war, illegally spying, illegally torturing, millions losing their homes, 45 million uninsured and the motherfuckers only give a shit about giving more land to oil companies.

5. Just a bunch of grandstanding bullshit.
Only the president can call for the congress to return from a recess, and Bush has shown no invlination to do that. Yet, these assholes are vying for all the TV camera-time they can get to somehow blame Nancy Pelosi. All they're doing is trying to save their own asses when November rolls around.

6. White House says no to special session of Congress
The White House has rejected calls from House Republicans that it convene a special session of Congress on energy, saying it wouldn’t make a difference.

“We don't have plans to call Congress into session -- it won't make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote,” said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.

8. Gingrich is back to the tactics that made him famous
This GOP effort is being organized off-Hill by Newt Gingrich and his astroturf organization du jour.

Way back, he used to pull this stunt all by himself so he could get time on C-SPAN. There was a big stnk once when Speaker tip O'Neil switched cameras on him to show he was making his dramatic speaches to an empty hall.

12. They Want Boooshie To Call An Emerency Session
What do you do when your party is about to get its asses handed to it in the elections? If you can't call off the elections, you do all you can to either prevent your opponent from doing well or keeping people away from the polls. We already have them trying to supress votes...this is an attempt to supress the Democratic Party.

Just watch, there'll be a cry in the days ahead for boooshie to call an "Emergency Session"...forcing Democrats back to Washington rather than in their home districts campaigning. Then you'll see even more theatrics as both the GOOP and the corporate media attempt to blame all the energy problems on those "reluctant Democrats"

Stay tuned...

15. Real Reason
The R's cannot go home to face the voters and campaign. They are stuck talking to themselves on the House floor in an empty room.
