Ft. Worth Star-Telegram: 107 degrees, and counting
107 degrees, and counting
Hot weather may have contributed to the deaths of two Fort Worth men
By CANDACE CARLISLEccarlisle@star-telegram.com

A record high Sunday will probably be followed by another 100-degree day today -- the 17th in the past 18 days -- and electricity officials are warning of more power outages this afternoon.

Today's forecast calls for a high of around 106, but Tropical Storm Edouard could bring some slight relief later in the week. Edouard was headed for the Gulf Coast on Monday morning.

Sunday's temperature peaked at a record-setting 107 degrees just before 5 p.m., and the electricity temporarily went out for about 250 residents of Hurst.

Power was restored by evening. Oncor spokeswoman Jeamy Molina could not say whether the outage was related to the heat, but said: "We understand that it's hot, and it is an inconvenience."

The Tarrant County medical examiner's office was trying to determine whether the death of a man found at about 6 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of East Rosedale Street is heat-related, said Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman. The man was identified as Michael Joseph Weilgosch, 49, of Fort Worth.

Officials also suspect heat played a role in the death of a 72-year-old Fort Worth man late Friday. ........(more)

1. Thank goodness global warming is a myth!
It would be terrible if weather like this were to become a persistent, regular weather pattern over the Gulf states. :eyes:

2. it's fucking ass blistering hot here
I was at a local establishment of afternoon alcoholic beverage service yesterday when I noticed two squirrels laying flat on their stomachs next to the balcony door upstairs getting a trickle of cold air through the crack.

In my back yard, Fraulein Bell (Tinkerbell, my Vietnamese Pot Bellied Sabre Tooth Swamp Weasel Chihuahua) actually half-assed tried to scare a squirrel back up a tree. The squirrel looked at her, then gave her the paw. She looked at it, looked at me, gave a yap, then turned around and got back in the shade.

3. Dallas summer of 1998 (IIRC) .. Pure-T hell!
It was 100+ degrees-F every day from about July 4 until well after Labor Day. I remember a week without electricity (the TXU transformers blew) with two days at 114. I remember walking Sirius after 9PM one particularly hot day in early September (to Dick Cheney's yard for a poop) with the temperature still over 100!

4. I live just across the Oklahoma border
and was trying to think of the year where it seemed like every day was over 100 for a ridiculous amount of time. It seemed like it was two months or something.

Of course last year it rained every day for 30 days and I don't think ever hit 100. Weather does weird stuff.

10. I had a 1969 Land-Rover (Series II-A) then with no A/C.
It also blew heat back from the engine compartment through the firewall. I sold the L-R in October of that year. It was NOT the vehicle for Dallas.

12. I clearly remember that summer
I was the supervisor of customer service at Six Flags. Most of the time I was in an office, but when I did have to venture out into the park, I was wearing black pumps, long sleeved white shirt and panty hose. It was horrible.

5. i remember 'heat wave' days on the kansas prairie...
i had a bar, and we would play 'time & temp roulette'...

we would sell $1 picks for every thirty seconds on a time sheet....

sheet was between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m....we would start calling time and temp, check the temp, and the winner was:

the time when the temperature went DOWN to 99°....it was always after midnight!!....

7. Remember to bump up your thermostats..
To conserve energy..

Here in Atlanta, we had over thirty days of 100 plus every day quite a few years ago.

This summer has actually been not all that bad, as summers in the south go..
