3. Ironic.
The Presidential candidate from 2004 smacking down the VP candidate from 2000. Ironic. But sweet. :D

8. Had he had surrogates like he is doing for Obama, he would have been
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 06:59 PM by politicasista
The Dems were M.I.A. and too busy siding with Bush. Not to mention the left leaning pundits/media were too busy dumping on him instead of getting his message out.

10. Thank you.
And afterward, there wasn't much help. A certain prominent Democratic Senator sided with the GOP when Sen. Kerry mis-spoke about how need to study or they'll make mistakes like getting us stuck in Iraq.

20. Yes, Kerry WON - but he would have had a better lead in more states
And probably enough of a lead that they couldn't have cheated enough to get away with it if he or a surrogate had come out fighting. Instead they took the "high road" and tried to ignore the Swift Boat attacks. I was a volunteer in his campaign and was frustrated at the time.

23. He did NOT ignore them. He responded and the media buried it
Edited on Mon Aug-04-08 11:22 AM by politicasista
Not only did he not have surrogates (minus Clark, Dean, Cleland, etc), but he did not have a DNC Chairman like Dean. He had Terry McAuliffe and his ineptness, he had Dem or left-leaning pundits like Carville and Begalla getting his message out rather than complaining, it may have been different. They were either siding with Bush or in the tank for Hillary 08 period.

You are also missing the point that the media was in the tank for Bush. Remember all the Terror Alerts and the Fear Card being played every day

You may want to check out this link which shows what really did happen.

26. Thank you - I had not seen that timeline.
During that entire period I was working 8-10 hours a day on the campaign and still trying to keep my horses and husband fed. I did not know about this place or any equivalents and would not have had time to visit if I had.

That timeline totally overthrows my concepts about how Kerry handled things. Obviously the M$M participated in the Swift Boating.

29. Hey, I used caps first ;-)
I started out in forums where absolute civility was required or you got booted out permanently. This place is a zoo, though much livelier than that set of forums ever was. And much more informative!

Again, thanks for the info. It will go into my files.

5. I'm watching too (thank goodnes for Tivo and DvRs). Kerry did great-
I'm a totally non-violent person but I can imagine how difficult it must have been for Kerry not to simply punch Liebreman in the nose- what an asshole he's being. Better yet - he must have been dying (I would have been) to just stand up and say "What the fuck is the matter with you, Joe? Have you totally lost track your mind or are you so blinded by the power of being McCain's shadow-pal that you've lost track of reality?".

God I'm pissed off at Lieberman- what a disgraceful, disappointing traitor.

As for Kerry- what happened to this part of his personality in 2005? Glad he's found his voice and he's doing a great job, granted but it sure would have been nice to have had this John Kerry as the candidate not the one we had.

12. He was the same John kerry
As the candidate, you need to worry more about people liking you - that's why it's been Kerry and others attacking McCain> in terms of defense, defending someone else if far easier and more effective. He did have the calm cool explations of everything - that's why he was exceptional in the debate.

But this is the Kerry that can be seen since he entered the public arena in 1971.

19. I so agree with you
I was actually yelling at the TV for "Lie"berman to shut the fuck up. Kerry was a true gentleman and knew his facts but he deserved another medal just for sitting at the same table with that damn turn coat. Is he honestly going to show up at the Democrat National convention? I would spit in his ugly, pointy nosed (oh sorry, it can't be pointy...must be "mushed" from being up McCain's ass)face if he was there. How fucking dare he....:wtf:

18. Took me a long, LONG while to get over that .
I was literally sick from it.

I learned to take breaks from politics after that, however short/long they were. I couldn't stay healthy without having learned to take breaks. I guess that's really the only positive thing that came from that nightmare.
