Admiral McCombover at the Urban League, 08-01-2008
Just one day after introducing their latest race-based attack against Barack Obama, The GOP Machine© propped their candidate in front of an audience of a "few hundred" at the National Urban League Conference in Orlando, Florida on Friday, August 1, 2008.

"The Maverick" got his picture taken with a laughing black man before delivering a speech. The Washington Post reports that there were two standing ovations, one at the beginning of the speech, and one at the end. One can safely assume the first one was when people came in, the second was when they left.

But, I digress.

The latest race-based attack from The GOP Machine© is more about timing than content. This attack had to be repeated by the GOP media cell prior to McCain's speech at the Urban League, in order to deflect attention from McCain's speech at the Urban League so that no one could accuse the Old Man of pandering.

Oh, by the way, did anyone know that McCain spoke at the National Urban League Conference?

After delivering his speech at the Urban League,
"... McCain held a question-and-answer session with the audience that was awkward at times, especially when he defended his opposition to affirmative action. Asked why he has decided to back a ballot initiative in Arizona that would repeal affirmative action programs, McCain replied, "Affirmative action is in the eye of the beholder....

(...)

When McCain added, "The best equal opportunity employer in America is the United States military," the audience started to laugh, visibly uncomfortable with the idea that blacks would have to enlist in order to receive equal treatment."

No word yet from any of the medias if there were any http://bravenewfilms.org/blog/46533-gook-john-mccain-s-racism-and-why-it-matters">gooks in the audience, or if any participants received any tokens of McCain's pathological vanity:

Perhaps the candidate is too humble to mention handing out any of those wonderful pins, or where they might be available for purchase.

1. This smear campaign is taking focus away from the real issues
They also announced today that 51,000 more jobs were lost. And no one is paying attention.
Obama needs to land a punch soon.

2. "Obama needs to land a punch soon"?
First off, I think he has, secondly, if he damages McCain too much prior to October, people will feel sorry for him.

I believe, Obama is pacing himself.

As far as the job losses go, that is a big story, may I invite you to post that on my weekly "Most important news story thread" (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3713750&mesg_id=3713750)?
