School To Put Students In 'Prison' Jumpsuits As Punishment

http://www.local6.com/education/17035594/detail.html

A school in Texas will force students who don't follow the rules to wear prison-like jumpsuits in a controversial move this coming school year.

-snip-

Violators will be forced to wear the jumpsuit for the day, the report said.

Some parents said the jumpsuits will make students feel like prisoners but the district said it's just a way to keep the children dressed appropriately for school.

A school board official said it's "worth a try" because it's a way to keep the district's conservative values intact.

pardon while I throw up. throw up on conservative values.

Texas is such a conflicted state.

1. I don't like the idea of them walking from area's in the school in formed
lines with their hands behind their back.. Its enforcing them at an early age to comply with "official" and automatically stick their hands behind their backs.. I'd like to make this an issue since my children are now in school.. I suppose I should start with school board and move to ACLU.

3. yes, the School Board has all the power - I keep advocating for

people to run for the school board. get the religiously insane off the school boards.

5. It is really quite expensive to get on the ballot in this area.. or you must
have a lot of free time to run around and collect petitions... AND then pay for some kind of publicity because nobody knows who you are...

I like the idea of holding our elected officials accountable, but the rules they've placed upon the avg. person who'd like to try and run for elected office make it really hard.. and ensure more and more that the persons in the race are more wealthy and connected than not.

8. anyone who wants to run has to round up backers first

learn about the politics of the board - who is on it and who holds the string attached to them.

get up ad money, etc., etc.

I think our kids are worth the effort.

10. It's my goal.. Currently, I work 56 hrs a week and watch my 3yr old and try
to have some semblance of a life with my hubby... but the more I talk about running, the more now he thinks I should.. He says I'm very well informed about the issues and our local issues.. I'd rather run for city council or mayor or State Senate than School Board. I'm not trying to make excuses for my lack of being able to do everything all at once... I'm trying, though, to network and get going on this so its a goal that I can achieve.. I'm very inspired by Mr. Obama and his tenacity.... and now my hubby actually supports the idea (which was a tough one to have one over; he's extremely private and knows that a public life means less privacy).

AND I do think our children are worth it as well.

2. How about sexual humiliation or sexual torture?
That would teach the students a good lesson. Or maybe pour hot sauce in their mouth as a good Christian punishment.

4. I hope all the students violate the dress code the
first day. How ridiculous! A jumpsuit is going to keep the district's conservative values intact? How about just tallking to the kids about the world, different cultures, exposing them to rich American/British/Mexican/Latin American/Russian/German/French...etc... literature? Teach humanistic values. Leave the conservative and for that matter strictly liberal views for the home.

6. Will castration and sterilization follow? Perhaps they can also
...subject these students to medical experimentations. This smells so much like fascism.

7. For high schoolers? Ain't gonna work.
They'll get a kick out of showing off their jumpsuit all day long.

13. It will become the new measuring stick for rebellion.
The school will figure that out in 3 days when they run out of jumpsuits.

11. more intimidation and desensitization . . .
just another way to indoctrinate the young ones into a society in which they have no control and must submit to their leaders . . . will come in handy when martial law is declared and these same students submit and go quietly -- rather than standing up to the forces of evil . . .
