Better "Montauk Monster" photo surfaces
Previously unseen photo:

and the first photo to become public:

From Joye Brown's column:
"The second time around, Christina Pampalone, of East Northport, borrowed O'Shea's camera. She aimed and kept on firing. The result is lots of -- ew -- gross photos of a carcass that looks more domestic than exotic, a bloated dog, not the Hound from Hell. It shows ears. A big swatch of fur. And its proportions appear to be less distorted -- making the head appear to be a suitable complement to the body.

"I was telling people, all day (Wednesday), that I had better photos," Pampalone said.

"Everybody I showed her pictures to said it looks like a dead dog," O'Shea said.

"But looking at the claws, and at the teeth in the front, it looked like it could be something else, something vicious."

It was relatively small, roughly 21/2 to 3 feet long, he said."

1. It's probably a dog
with its snout bitten off. Or it could be manbearpig, from the silly South Park episode where they beat up on Al Gore.

10. Please, relax. In all likelihood, it is a dead dog.
The top photo is supposed to debunk the "monster" hypothesis.

11. I told my mum
It looks like a griffin, with the beak like thing and all. She said it was either a turtle without a shell or a dead dog.
I dunno still. Probably a dog.

22. Nah, it's a dog with a short snout, like a pug or a pit bull
raccoons don't have much of a brow ridge:

18. when i saw the first pic- i thought it looked like a dog with part of it's snout chewed off/missing.
that's what happens to dead things in the water- other living things eat parts of them.

26. That's better pic
Certainly is a dog. A bully type breed with a heavier/muscular jaw (even taking into consideration the bloating factor), perhaps an american bulldog or a staffie.

Poor guy:-(

Doesn't look like a dog's foot to me.
