N.Y. gov: 'If Rush Limbaugh said it, I know it's wrong'

New York Gov. David Paterson was in Washington today to deliver a stern warning that the financial woes facing the nation and states such as his could be "the most serious challenge facing the country since the Depression."

But USA TODAY's Kathy Kiely, who was at the National Press Club when Paterson spoke, tells us he also got off some real rhetorical zingers:

• On a charge by conservative radio's biggest name that New York operates a gold-plated Medicaid program, Paterson said that "if Rush Limbaugh said it, I know it's wrong."

• On which vice presidential choice might help Republican presidential candidate John McCain win New York State, he said, "I think that would take a resurrection."
