Your corruption fix...How many ways can you indict Karl Rove this week?

Karl Rove has finally been held in contempt by the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee. The Republicans on the Committee apparently have decided to collectively pretend that they are not part of Congress, one of the three branches of government if I recall. The GOP-machine appears to have found it more important to protect Karl Rove than to protect Congressional subpoena power. Now why would grown men give up their own power to protect someone like Karl Rove? That, my friends, is indeed the million dollar question and the answer to which is also the likely answer to the bizarre behavior of Congressional Democrats. I don't pretend to know why we no longer have a co-equal branch of government called Congress, but I do have strong suspicions. That aside, let's look at the week in Rove-connected corruption:

1. Monica "The Good American" Goodling: does anyone believe for a moment that Monica Goodling created the entire US Attorney scandal all on her own? I had no idea that Goodling was so close with Bill Canary, the husband of US Attorney, Leura Canary. Oops, that would be Karl Rove. I had no idea that Goodling was such good friends with Alice Martin, the good friend of the Canary's who is also a US Attorney. Oops, that would be Karl Rove. I had no idea that Goodling was such good friends with "vote caging" expert and US Attorney hopeful Tim Griffith. Oops, that would be Karl Rove. I could go on, but you get the idea. Apparently the little half-wit who believes herself to be a Christian (because good Christians do things like lie, cheat, etc.) has been cast as the latest solo performer on the state of corruption.

2. Loyal Bushies Installed All Over Government: This is particularly interesting to me, since the person who is actively having "loyall Bushies" installed in US courts and all over US government is Mr. Karl Rove. Goodling does not have the power to install loyalists in every department. This is what the IHT is reporting today:

"We simply want to place as many of our Bush loyalists as possible," the White House emphasized in a follow-up message, according to a little-noticed passage of an internal Justice Department report about politicization in its hiring of civil service prosecutors and immigration officials.

The White House emphasized? The White House is a building. Who actually sent the memos instructing these activities? Well, it would appear that it came from the Political Affairs Office or as they say (in my house anyway), Rove's branch of government.

3. GSA Political Hack Gets Radio Gig: Sounds to me like someone is getting a nice pay-off for helping out Karl Rove. Remember Lurita Doan?

"Lurita Doan, the former Administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA) who was forced by the White House to resign in April, will now be filling a regular weekly slot on Federal News Radio. Her show, called "Leadership Matters," first aired this morning and will present her unfiltered views on government leadership.

Despite impressive achievements, Doan was a polarizing figure during her 22-month tenure at GSA and was investigated on charges of violating the Hatch act and interference in contract negotiations. However, it seems to have been a personal feud over whistleblower complaints with her agency's inspector general that lead the White House to force her resignation."

So, no punishment for violating the Hatch Act then? Another Goodling soloist acting alone? Right.

4. Threatening a government witness: According to attorney Cliff Arnebeck, Karl Rove has been busy threatening Mike Connel, who has been instrumental in fixing the facts around elections in Ohio, Florida, and elswhere, as well as running such well known illegal White House communications conduits as GWB43.com.
