Got any good info to refute this LTTE?
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 05:37 AM by JonathanChance
Comes from some guy claiming to represent a group called Vets for Freedom

http://www.stevenspointjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080730/SPJ06/807300553/1712

On July 5, 2008 a story announced the shipment of 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium from Iraq to Canada. American troops found this in 2003 shortly after invading, but did not announce the news because of fears that terrorists would try to steal it.

In June 2006, two members of Congress announced that U.S. forces had found 500 Iraqi munitions containing mustard and saran gas, enough poison to wipe out 8.3 million people.

Thousands of captured Iraqi documents being translated show Saddam Hussein was sponsoring terrorism, including groups connected with Al Qaeda. A notebook taken from an Iraqi intelligence agent reports a meeting with the Iraqi vice president and Taliban and Bin Laden deputies. A document captured in Afghanistan backs up the claim with details of the meeting.

I think the 2006 thing he's talking about had something to do with some rightwing senator up for re-election spewing crap on Fox News, (I think it might have been Santorum, but I can't remember)

1. Yeah, that was Santorum I'm pretty sure
This is bullshit, obviously, sometimes it's tough to disprove outright lies because they never show up on a search. The 9/11 Report refutes what he said about Saddam sponsoring terrorism including AQ groups. Unless something new has come up that's wrong. I don't know about the notebook, but that's meeting sounds off too.

I'll try to find some links later, I'm about to crash.

2. yellow cake from Iraq to Canada
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25546334/

Uranium WAS removed from Iraq in 2008. Israel first bombed the site in 1981 and we had been aware of it since.

Israeli warplanes bombed a reactor project at the site in 1981. Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said.

3. mustard and saran gas
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=15918

The munitions addressed in the report were produced in the 1980s, Maples said. Badly corroded, they could not currently be used as originally intended, Chu added.

4. And the chem weapons were also those under UN control
from the Gulf War, located in known storage dumps, aging, useless as weapons, hardly capable of killing 8.3 million people, more likely to kill the unfortunate people tasked with disposing of it than anyone else.

What part of this war was about taking over Iraq's oil fields and nothing else don't the rightwingtards get?

6. thousands of Iraqi documents
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/06/16/911.commission/

The commission's report says bin Laden "explored possible cooperation with Iraq during his time in Sudan, despite his opposition to Hussein's secular regime. Bin Laden had in fact at one time sponsored anti-Saddam Islamists in Iraqi Kurdistan.

"The Sudanese, to protect their own ties with Iraq, reportedly persuaded bin Laden to cease this support and arranged for contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda."

A senior Iraqi intelligence officer reportedly made three visits to Sudan, finally meeting bin Laden in 1994.

Bin Laden is said to have requested space to establish training camps, as well as assistance in procuring weapons, but Iraq apparently never responded.

"There have been reports that contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda also occurred after bin Laden had returned to Afghanistan, but they do not appear to have resulted in a collaborative relationship," the report said.

"Two senior bin Laden associates have adamantly denied" any relationship, the report said.

The panel also dismissed reports that Atta met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in the Czech Republic on April 9, 2000. "We do not believe that such a meeting occurred."

7. Whatever! The Pentagon says no direct links between AQ and Hussein.
Does this guy wanna argue with THE PENTAGON go right ahead. They are in the Washington DC area. The phone number is listed. If the 9-11 bombers could find it. He probably could to. Hopefully he will take a less violent arguementative tactic.
