"Hollywood liberals have allready rubberstamped Al Gore's Oscar"
I just had a co-worker tell me this.
He says that Global Warming is "pure bullshit", and cant understand how a film with such a boring theme could win anything.

He still uses the "Saddam attacked us on 9/11, thats why we went to war" argument. And the "Reagan ended communism" line too.

2. Boring theme? has he ever looked at what films are nominated

in the documentary category?

I watch documentaries and enjoy them, but in comparison to entrainment movies, yes they have boring themes. They serve different purposes than "When Harry Met Sally," or "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Does he also point out that "Those porno movies have no plot."

4. He's a NASCAR and WWE guy from Dallas.
He also has stated that reading books is dumb when you can watch the movie and get all that you need out of it.
He bought a house last year and his $3000.00 a month payments have him collecting cans and bottles, everyday after work to make ends meet. But he still claims that bu$h is doing a great job and the economy is booming.
Poor fellow.

But I don't think I share much more with your co-worker.

Rinse and repeat the question every time he repeats the same RW talking points.

If he wins it will be because of all the Hollywood liberals. I betya Rush said this on his show.

Gore is damned if he does and damned if doesn't win. Have I mentioned that I really hate rightwankers?

10. Get his butt fired
Tell your boss he's harrassing you about politics. Say that he comes to your desk and shoves his ideas down your throat. Say that he's emailing you spam.

Repub bastards bent over backwards to make everyone paranoid about each other these past 6 years. I see no reason why we can't use it if they can.

The OP didn't say any of that. Why would you want to screw someone's life up? Because they're ill-informed?

21. Yes, he did
Are you aware how many workplaces in this country have no tolerance policies toward discussing politics? This guy keeps coming up to the OP and spewing crap at him. That's grounds for reprimand at a minimum in a lot of workplaces.

The guy's not ill-informed. He's pushing his politics on people.

23. OP did not say
who initiated conversation. Should the OP be fired too? We also don't know the policies of this workplace. Also the OP has said that this individual struggles to pay their bills. You really want to destroy someone's life because you disagree with their politics? I stand by the statement, that that's fucked up. Very.

You know what? I am going to answer this after all.

Because after 6+ years of freepers making anyone to the left of Hitler out to be a spineless weakling granola munching coward, I've had enough. Maybe I assumed that this guy started the conversation and not the OP. If I did, it's because 99% of the time that's what happens. The days of the left being radical are over. the right has taken it up, and unlike the left, they don't just air their opinions, they force them. In case you haven't noticed, freepers think it isn't enough that they believe all the crap they do - they insist you do yoo. They rub it in your face every chance they get. As a matter of fact, lots of them like to talk about how they want to kill anyone who doesn't agree with them. Some of them even try to act on it; Chad Castegna comes to mind - he wanted to literally terrorize people he didn't agree with. and let's not forget Tim McVeigh or Eric Rudolph. The only truly domestic political terroists we've had in the last couple of decades have talked exactly like what the OP describes.

So say what you want. I don't care. I'm fed up with the fascists dominating everything in this country through bullying and intimidation. This clown the OP talked about is doing everything he can to ruin his own life as it is, by believing the crap he does.

35. Yeah. You found me out.
I want to kill everyone that isn't like me. I stay up at night dreaming about terrorizing people. I'm really a Repub mole too.

It's just a little bit of a stretch to go from doing something about someone who is spouting off rightwing talking points in a place where it is usually not welcome to claiming that someone has lost their humanity.

In many cases, the workplace has rules to not talk about things like this AT ALL. Maybe the OP works in one like that, maybe not. Maybe he is comfortable with talking to the other employee. That's his choice. What I said was a SUGGESTION. As a POSSIBILITY. Like it or not, there's people who lose their jobs because of simply stating liberal ideas at work. Ask Mike_C about people like that - he had someone try to get him fired because he posts here ON HIS OWN TIME.

Like it or not, weasels like that aren't going to roll over and go away. They only get encouragement from people letting them get away with it. It starts by bullying people with their ideas. The OP was about how the guy was saying that the system is rigged because things might not go his way. It goes from there to namecalling, then outright bullying. If you haven't seen this before, look around. This is Bush's America. If you think that just hoping that it goes away will fix the problem, then you would be wrong.

I'm at the point now where I think we need to fight back, and not just pretend that the situation will get better from good wishes. People who are still making the claims they are about 'liberals have rigged the system' are bullies. They aren't interested in working with other people. They aren't going anywhere until we make them go. But hey, I'm not a liberal. You said so. And of course, you are the only true arbiter of that.

And then you won't have such a dissonance between what you say you believe in and what you sound like you do. Vengeance and gutter fighting is not part of any political platform I voted for.

24. Hey EP
I might actually fall into this category...the "bother other people about politics" thing. I'm not obnoxious, but I am rather strident. No one complains that I know of because it is generally bitching about Bush to political allies and foreign nationals...who agree with me, that is. Word travels fast that I the "anti-Bush" person, so a few people come to me to bitch to me, too.

I print out articles and leave them in a few boxes (also allies).
I send a link or two through email (again...allies).

I suppose that means when I am no longer a student, I will have to watch that. I don't want some puke to cut my throat at work early in my career. We have a few....even an "intelligent design" entmologist who, unfortunately, shows his Biology 101 class slanted "Evolution vs. Intelligent Design" videos for two weeks of the quarter.

As a student you can get away with some things that you can't as a full-time worker. It depends a lot on the environment too - I've worked in places that politics are tolerated, and I've worked in places where any mention of politics is considered out of line.

13. That was my question
But it appears that the co-worker likes his opinions as free from facts as possible.

Curious though, how highly the co-worker apparently values the opinion of a segment of society he so clearly despises. What does he care what the libruls in Hollyweird honor? Unless secretly . . . No, it's too awful to contemplate!

If I were you, I would find the speeches by Bush where he says "we never said Saddam attacked us on 9-11". And watch the cognitive dissonance spin his mind around like a load of laundry in a front-load washer.

that kind of approach alters the dynamics of irrational emotions, he will have to think about it a bit more, even if only for a few minutes and this is the opening. It also shows the antagonist, that the O.P. is thinking of his/her family, even if they are distant. The key is for the O.P. to the let the negativity pass through him/her and show genuine concern for the antagonist's family along with everyone else. If you are seriously concerned about the looming catastrophe of global warming, then your attitude will be sincere.

Edit for P.S. This is what Al Gore is talking about when he says, this is a moral issue.

29. The fundie freak lady who sits near me at work said the same thing....
"Why don't they cancel the show and just give it to Al Gore now?"
This is the same lady who pulled me aside when I was talking about what a great movie "Brokeback Mountain" was and said, "Don't you wonder what the agenda behind that movie is? Why are they taking one of the American icons (referring to cowboys) and making him gay?"
In other words, she's really crazy. The extent of our conversations now is "Hi" and "Have a nice weekend."

The notion of "internal contradiction" is foreign to these people... or rather, it's comes so naturally to them that pointing it out is like trying to describe water to a fish.

After all, we know "science" is just the French word for "Satan".

That's why it keeps trying to convince kids that we're monkeys, and the Earth isn't 6,000 years old.
