3. this is typical
(fwiw, i occasionally trade nikkei futures).

I cannot remember the last time the dow closed -150 or greater and the nikkei, HSI, etc weren't also down, at LEAST for the 1st half of the session.

international markets are (unfortunately) very highly correlated
