Poll question: Why is the GOP-controlled media pushing the idea...
...that "the election is Obama's to lose"?

Every time I turn on the TV, some talking head says the election is a "referendum on Obama". Or "the election is about Obama"?

Obviously, they're getting the same talking point, but, why is it being said?

What is the purpose for saying this?

1. lower activity of Obama supporters by portraying the next 100 days
as a cake walk. In a reverse psychology sort of way - to dampen the sense of urgency that has stoked enthusiasm for Obama.

2. January 2010:
Wow, one year in and the economy is a disaster, we have troops dying in two countries. Obama said if he became President that he'd fix everything.

Well, one year in, here's the score card...

Looks like he fooled us all.

Looks like McCain *was* the straight talker.

Etc.

3. Because
1) he's ahead
2) people are tired of repubs and clearly ANY repub is going to be saddled with bush.

It IS obama's to lose. I mean he should beat McCain handily, and save catastrophe he will

5. But is it also a referendum on Obama?
Why wouldn't it be a referendum on Bush or the GOP?

10. I'd say it's primarily a referendum on
Bush/GOP.

Iow, they have fucked up the country so badly, that it's as much as NOT bush/GOP vote as it will be an Obama vote for a lot of people. Personally, that doesn't bother me. I don't care, as long as Obama wins.

6. say 'criminal controlled' media
and that sorta answers itself...(strangely enough, maybe acting as if they really fear Obama is a public endorsement, nudge wink style)

7. Seems like McCain is convinced relentless attacks will work, media going along
I am getting tired of the constant second guessing critiques by the media about how Obama should be doing better and how he could handle his campaign better while giving so much emphasis to McCain's attacks. McCain is benefiting from his harsh attacks against Obama while McCain's failings, flipflops, lack of integrity are being underplayed. Obama and Dems need to be more aggressive in criticizing McCain instead of letting McCain put Obama in a weakened defensive position all the time, with the media picking up and running with the Repub McCain talking points.

12. I say all of the above in the poll.
Every one of those could be part of the reason.
