NEW YORK The Times of Shreveport, La., today became at least the fourth newspaper this week to drop columnist Ann Coulter.

In a note just posted on the newspaper's site, Times Executive Editor Alan English wrote: "Today we move past the rhetoric and unproductive dialogue offered by Ann Coulter. The Times is dropping her column effective immediately.

"It is her recent 'joke' about John Edwards being considered a 'faggot' that is the back-breaking straw for a decision we've openly discussed for some time." The Times had previously considered dropping Coulter last year after the author/Universal Press columnist made nasty remarks about 9/11 widows.

Also dropping Coulter this week were the Lancaster (Pa.) New Era, The Oakland Press of Michigan, and The Mountain Press of Sevierville, Tenn.

2. And HRC is responsible!
No, not Hillary.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Campaign gay-rights organization announced an effort late Wednesday afternoon to get other Coulter newspaper clients (she has about 100) to drop the columnist. That came a day after HRC started a letter-writing effort that resulted in what it said were more than 20,000 messages urging Universal to stop distributing Coulter.

DETROIT - A newspaper has decided to drop columnist Ann Coulter following the conservative pundit's use of a derogatory word to describe Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards during a speech last week.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac elected to stop running Coulter's columns after she used the word "faggot" to describe Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina. The decision was reported Wednesday by the trade publication Editor & Publisher.

"She's really gone into the realm of wanting to be, whatever, a personality, a celebrity flame-thrower," Glenn Gilbert, the paper's executive editor, told The Associated Press on Thursday. "The reason we wanted her, we wanted a conservative columnist. She's obviously betrayed conservatives."

4. 4 down, 96 to go.
Think I read somewhere that UPS distributes Tapeworm's column to 100 newspapers. I would love to see the domino effect on this one; then again, any time she opens her yap it hurts the Rs. Her "f" remark is on par with Limpballs mocking Michael J. Fox, and we all know how that turned out for Jim Talent.

6. Media Matters list of papers
Coulter's syndicator, Universal Press, is passing the buck, stating that they do not intend to drop Coulter and that it is up to the individual papers who carry her musings. So, here's the list: http://mediamatters.org/items/200703080002

Regardless, I recommend continuing to put pressure on Universal and the sponsors of their web site: http://www.uexpress.com/anncoulter/

5. Excellent news. We do not need cretins like her
voicing hate towards others in a public medium.

8. Just called the Oakland Press to thank them for their good taste.
I got WAY too much time on my hands.

You know there are no other newspapers in this state carrying her? I'm rather impressed.

10. I thought the Macomb Daily (same ownership as Oakland Press)
shifted each week between her and O'reilly.
