Hi all,
I thought of the following challenge and was wondering if other DUers could pitch in?
============================================
Challenge Topic: McCain in the private health insurance market
Description:
Imagine John McCain wanted to obtain coverage to equal that of his government-subsidized health insurance (
http://www.opm.gov/insure/health/) in the open market. Can we (collectively) do the following things?
- Build a uniform description of John McCain's health based on publicly available data (including history of cancer, etc.)
- Submit this description for a quote to major health insurance providers with the implicit requirement to match the FEHB coverage
- Compare the resulting numbers side by side (I am thinking they would be 5x to 10x larger than FEHB)
- Ask John McCain why he thinks private individual health insurance is more cost effective than "government health care"
- Optionally, also compare and contrast with Medicare coverage and costs
Thoughts?
