Seriously?

Former CIA Director Porter Goss has been appointed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) as co-chairman of the new Office of Congressional Ethics.

Goss among former members appointed to ethics office
By Susan Crabtree
Posted: 07/24/08 02:26 PM

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday announced joint appointments to a landmark ethics review board that for the first time will allow private citizens to review allegations against members.

Still, four out of six members of the board for the newly created Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) will be former members of Congress, including former CIA Director Porter Goss (R-Fla.), who will serve as co-chairman.

The other board members include Rep. David Skaggs (D-Colo.), who will serve as chairman of the board, former Rep. Yvonne Brathwaite Burke (D-Calif.), former Rep. Karan English (D-Ariz.), former House Chief Administrative Officer Jay Eagen and Allison Hayward, the former chief of staff to Bradley Smith, a Republican-appointed former chairman of the Federal Election Commission.

Two additional former members will serve as alternate appointees to the board: former federal judge and ex-Rep. Abner Mikva (D-Ill.) and former Rep. Bill Frenzel (R-Minn.).

12. He does deserve some credit for coming clean about the CIA highlighter problem
CIA Realizes It's Been Using Black Highlighters All These Years
November 30, 2005 | Issue 41•48

LANGLEY, VA—A report released Tuesday by the CIA's Office of the Inspector General revealed that the CIA has mistakenly obscured hundreds of thousands of pages of critical intelligence information with black highlighters.

According to the report, sections of the documents— "almost invariably the most crucial passages"—are marred by an indelible black ink that renders the lines impossible to read, due to a top-secret highlighting policy that began at the agency's inception in 1947.

CIA Director Porter Goss has ordered further internal investigation.

"Why did it go on for this long, and this far?" said Goss in a press conference called shortly after the report's release. "I'm as frustrated as anyone. You can't read a single thing that's been highlighted. Had I been there to advise Allen Dulles, I would have suggested the traditional yellow color—or pink."

Goss added: "There was probably some really, really important information in these documents." <snip>

20. Here's some stuff on just that... (I was googling)

On the Far Left is Felix Rodriguez (the man accused of killing Che Guevara for the CIA), to his left is Porter Goss (The man who headed the first 911 Inquiry into the attacks and later became Director of the CIA).To his left is Barry Seal.
Zapata Corporation was the front for Operation Zapata, known to the public as Bay of Pigs, where the secret government attempted to manipulate a war with Cuba. Zapata is a holding company based in Rochester, New York and originating from an oil company started by a group including the former United States President George H. W. Bush. Through his work with Zapata Off-Shore, Bush is alleged to have come into contact with Felix Rodriguez, Barry Seal, Porter Goss, and E. Howard Hunt, around the time of the Bay of Pigs operation.

In 1968, Seal became captain of the Civil Air Patrol where he trained Rudy Dekkers. In the 1970's, Seal ran drugs on planes later identified as Air America planes. In 1981, he moved his operation to Mena, Arkansas where, until 1986, Mena was “ground zero” for drug operations. Rudy Dekkers worked in Mena, Arkansas from 1983-1985 and received his training from Barry Seal where he most likely participated in the drug operations.

The investigation into Seal's death started with a lead into the history of the aircraft he used to traffic some of his cocaine (a 1982 Beechcraft King Air 200 with FAA registration number N6308F - Serial Number BB-1014). The handwritten tail number was found in records kept by Seal's widow and later linked to other "hard paper" records left by Seal after his 1986 assassination by "drug traffickers" who were subsequently connected to Oliver North. Those records, including leasing agreements, insurance policies and maintenance records, exhibit a deliberatelyconfusing "paper trail" of convoluted ownership recalling the 'glory' days of the Iran Contra hearings, where the machinations of American covert intelligence operators were unmasked before a disbelieving public.

Merrill Bean, the Utah Chevy dealer who acquired "Zero-Eight-Foxtrot" in 1984 sold the plane in May of 1990 to Corporate Wings of Salt Lake City. Two days later Corporate Wings sold it to Gantt Aviation of Georgetown, Texas, which a month later sold it to the State of Texas Aircraft Pool where it resides today. Johnny Gantt, President of Gantt Aviation told From the Wilderness reporters that he probably knew that the State of Texas had a bid out when he acquired "Zero-Eight-Foxtrot". At the time the Governor of Texas was Bill Clements and George "W", a good friend, was owner of the Texas Rangers.

A genial Gantt explained that he had probably been aware that the State was "putting out a bid" for a King Air and scooped up the plane. Press clippings show that Gantt Aviation is a large dealership with a long history of providing planes to the State of Texas. It was a done deal within weeks and Zero-Eight-Foxtrot found the home where it lives happily today.

Barry Seal's papers started this investigation. It actually began when author Terry Reed announced at a Los Angeles public gathering in July, 1999 that a video tape might surface during the 2000 Presidential campaign "showing George W and Jeb arriving at Tamiami Airport in 1985 to pick up two kilos of cocaine for a party”. Said Reed, "They flew in on a King Air 200." Subsequent statements made by Barry Seal and recorded in Reed's 1995 book Compromised recount how Seal bragged about how he had video of "the Bush boys" doing coke. Other witnesses located by both writers of this story, who were in relevant official positions in 1985, have confirmed that the described Tamiami sting took place. All, in fear for their lives, have refused to go on the record.

Does George "W" Bush (“Dubyah”) use Zero-Eight-Foxtrot? According to Jerry Daniels, Executive Director of the Texas State Aircraft Pooling Board, "He used to fly on that airplane all the time. He stopped when he became a Presidential candidate because the State won't let you fly its aircraft for political purposes." But FTW learned that if and when Dubyah is back in the state and on state business, he probably will because Dubyah is a licensed pilot and Zero-Eight-Foxtrot is one of his favorites though he doesn't get to pilot much any more

much more...tying in with Iran Contra & more

84. And even before that, when CIA ignored Kennedy trying to resolve
the missile crisis peacefully and dropped operatives into Cuba WHILE the White House was talking to the Russians. And there's the matter of the assasination itself, which two Congressinal investigations decided involved both the mob and the anti Castro Cubans and probably CIA operatives.

Look at that snaphot again.

Thanks, Nancy!

The world is officially BATSHIT crazy off their rockers. You mean Rudy Dekkers ,as in the guy who trained the so-called 911 terrorists at his flight school in Florida? You mean Rudy Dekker who opened his flight school just before Sept 11th right in the heart of Porter Goss's old district at Venice Airport? You mean Rudy Dekkers with a life-long tie to the CIA and Cocaine running and terrorists? Nahhh.. never heard of the guy. We're not allowed to talk about "conspiracies" on this board.

There's been a news blackout on him for some time now...

Looking it up further, it sounds like the trial is scheduled to be October 23rd, not long before the election.

Perhaps having his buddy Goss from the CIA on the ethics panel, the powers that be can keep a muzzle on any news that might come from that that might affect the election in ways that the powers that be (Bushco and the Pelosi and DLC Democrats) don't want it to.

45. Operation 40
Porter is in profile, with his arm on Che Gueverra's assassin and George H.W. Bush's goodpal, Felix Rodriguez, below.
The others around the table include some of the scariest mofo's to ever cash a paycheck from Uncle Sam.

There's nothing like having a CIA man around the House.

Operation 40

On 11th December, 1959, Colonel J. C. King, chief of CIA's Western Hemisphere Division, sent a confidential memorandum to Allen W. Dulles, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. King argued that in Cuba there existed a "far-left dictatorship, which if allowed to remain will encourage similar actions against U.S. holdings in other Latin American countries." (1)

As a result of this memorandum Dulles established Operation 40. It obtained this name because originally there were 40 agents involved in the operation. Later this was expanded to 70 agents. The group was presided over by Richard Nixon. Tracy Barnes became operating officer of what was also called the Cuban Task Force. The first meeting chaired by Barnes took place in his office on 18th January, 1960, and was attended by David Atlee Phillips, E. Howard Hunt, Jack Esterline, and Frank Bender.

According to Fabian Escalante, a senior officer of the Cuban Department of State Security (G-2), in 1960 Richard Nixon recruited an "important group of businessmen headed by George Bush (Snr.) and Jack Crichton, both Texas oilmen, to gather the necessary funds for the operation". (2) This suggests that Operation 40 agents were involved in freelance work.

It is known that at this time that George Bush and Jack Crichton were involved in covert right-wing activities. In 1990 The Common Cause magazine argued that: "The CIA put millionaire and agent George Bush in charge of recruiting exiled Cubans for the CIA’s invading army; Bush was working with another Texan oil magnate, Jack Crichton, who helped him in terms of the invasion." (3) This story was linked to the release of "a memorandum in that context addressed to FBI chief J. Edward Hoover and signed November 1963, which reads: Mr. George Bush of the CIA" (4)

58. Yvonne Burke is currently a Los Angeles county supervisor, not a former congresswoman.
Of the LA Supervisors who have recently hired a high school graduate with strong ties to the election industry vendors, and no other qualififcations whatsoever (HE was chased out of Washington state for ruining their elections, and ran a terrible election here in Los Angeles on his trial run in Feb of this year. So bad it made national news as a bad election) in spite of our repeated trips to the Suoperviosrs to show them that they could not possibly consider him. The supervisors not only hired him in a secret meeting, they ahve signed new contracts for millions of dollars this year with deibold, diebold owned corporations and Robis elecitons. Rep Brke was the only one of the five who pretended to listen to us, and we thanked her for that. But mysteriously they went ahead unanimously signig contract after bad contract. One, I recall was for 1.7 million dollars for a website. a training website! out of 41 companies , only 2 sent in a bid; Diebold owned SOe and RObis. IT technicians came in and told the superviosrs there are already available in the market much ebtter software versions for 10% of the price.

I have to say that of the 5 supervisors, Burke is the only one who held our respect, but she did vote in accordance with the others and never investigated anything we brought before her to investigate.

60. Porter's politicizing and purges at the CIA:
I just read Sidney Blumenthal's book and this was from his May 11, 2006 column "Killing the CIA".

On April 21, 2005, his mission dictated by Bush's political imperatives, Goss became CIA director. Immediately, he sent a memo to all employees, ordering them to "support the administration and its policies in our work." He underscored the supremacy of the party line: "As agency employees we do not identify with, support, or champion opposition to the administration or its policies."

He installed four political aides to run the agency from his offices on the seventh floor at Langley. Within weeks, an exodus of professionals began and then turned into a flood. In the Directorate of Operations, he lost the director, two deputies, and more than a dozen department and division directors and station chiefs out in the field. In the Directorate of Intelligence, dozens took early retirement. Four former operations chiefs, horrified by the carnage, sought to meet with Goss, but he refused.

Acting on the president's charge, Goss in effect purged the CIA. He was even conducting lie detector interrogations of officers to root out the sources of stories leaked to the press -- to the Washington Post, for example, in its Pulitzer Prize-winning exposé of CIA "black site" prisons where detainees are jailed without any due process, Red Cross inspection or Geneva Conventions protection. Last month, a CIA agent, Mary McCarthy, was fired for her contact with a reporter. Like others subjected to questioning, she was asked her political affiliation.

75. A cover-up. Just something to write in the constituent's newsletter
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 03:09 AM by dmr
to say:
"see, we're all about bringing back an open and honest government by allowing private citizens like you at home to come in and review our misdeeds. See, the crazy, fringe netroots are wrong, I am doing something positive for you and our country!"

"My dear constituents, even though Impeachment and stuff like that are off the table, your many calls and letters are important to us and we will honor your requests for more oversight by appointing private citizens to a newly formed board to watch over us here in D.C. Be assured we have chosen only those we believe will look out for the best interests of your elected leaders. Please send a contribution to my campaign so that I may continue to bring you the best government I have to offer.

Best Regards, Nancy"

To tell the truth, I have a feeling our government is harmed beyond hope of restoration. I have a pit in my stomach feeling this way. Quickly, I am losing faith that life and freedom in America that once was will only continue on the decline under this type of Democratic leadership.

I truly hate talking against Democrats in public, but Nancy Pelosi must go. California has the right to vote her into office, but we all have the right to voice our concerns against her being the Speaker of the House. Her decisions impact us all and needs to be held accountable to the people.

Does anyone know off the tops of their heads whether she is automatically the Speaker when the next Congress resumes in January, '09? Or is there another vote? If so, could we not begin petitions to start afresh? I'm too tired to research this now, but will after some sleep.

Edit: Answer to my own question:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives
- snip -
The Speaker is elected on the first day of a new session of Congress. The election is presided over by the Clerk of the House of Representatives and each party nominates a candidate. Whoever receives a simple majority of the votes is elected and, after election, is sworn in by the Dean of the House, the chamber's longest-serving member.

In modern practice, the Speaker is chosen by the majority party in the House; it is usually obvious within two to three weeks of a House election who the new Speaker will be. It is expected that members of the House vote for their party's candidate. If they don't do so, they usually vote for someone else in their party or vote "present." - snip -

Maybe we can start a project for a new Speaker ...

87. Must-read 2005 American Prospect article on Porter Goss destroying the CIA
...exactly as intended by the neocons:

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?articleId=10472

The Yes-Man: President Bush sent Porter Goss to the CIA to keep the agency in line. What he's really doing is wrecking it.
ROBERT DREYFUSS | October 23, 2005
The American Prospect

Exactly as intended, Porter Goss has hit the Central Intelligence Agency like a wrecking ball.
The former Florida congressman, who had an undistinguished career as a CIA operations officer in the 1960s, came to the agency in September 2004 after serving seven years as chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. With his staff in tow -- a collection of Capitol Hill aides nicknamed the Gosslings -- Goss bowled into the CIA's Langley, Virginia, headquarters, scattering senior officials like so many duckpins. In mid-September, Robert Richer, the newly installed deputy director of operations and a former Near East Division chief, quit in disgust. The newspapers duly reported Richer's departure. But he is only the tip of a Titanic-sized iceberg.

Since Goss took over, between 30 and 90 senior CIA officials have made their exit, according to various sources, some fleeing into retirement, others taking refuge as consultants. Others, unable to retire, have stayed, but only to mark time at the agency. Morale, already low after several years during which the CIA was accused of a series of intelligence failures related to September 11 and Iraq's nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, is now at rock-bottom. The agency's vaunted Near East Division, in particular, which served as the pointy end of the spear, as one CIA veteran put it, in simultaneous wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the global war on terror, has been decimated.

(snip)

Appointed to lead the agency in the midst of a heated presidential campaign, Goss' primary mission, according to numerous former CIA officials -- including some only recently departed -- was to yank Langley onto President Bush's political team. His immediate goal in 2004 was to block what had been, until then, a stream of damaging leaks of information about CIA intelligence reports that ran contrary to the White House's rosy optimism about Iraq and U.S. anti-terrorism efforts. More broadly, the Goss team clamped down on dissenting views and radically politicized the CIA's leadership. Even worse, say former agency officials, Goss has acquiesced in the dismantling of the CIA itself, which has bowed too easily to the supremacy of the new director of national intelligence, John Negroponte, the former U.S. ambassador to Iraq, who spent his days in Baghdad contradicting the CIA's clear-eyed battle reports.

(snip)

ETHICS!!?!??! Porter Goss??!!??!

This is utter corruption and arrogance. Pelosi MUST go and this appointment must be protested for the cynical travesty it is.
