Conyers has pretended that he wants to hold Bush accountable for his actions, but he has yet to do anything except attempt to pacify progressives by doing his impeachment two-step. So Conyers is going to allow Bush and his criminal administration to run out the clock while Conyers tries to appear like he is doing something.
He's been backstepping since May 2006
No Rush to Impeachment
By John Conyers Jr.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/17/AR2006051701880.htmlAs Republicans have become increasingly nervous about whether they will be able to maintain control of the House in the midterm elections, they have resorted to the straw-man strategy of identifying a parade of horrors to come if Democrats gain the majority. Among these is the assertion that I, as the new chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, would immediately begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush.
I will not do that. I readily admit that I have been quite vigorous, if not relentless, in questioning the administration. The allegations I have raised are grave, serious, well known, and based on reliable media reports and the accounts of former administration officials
<snip>
So, rather than seeking impeachment, I have chosen to propose comprehensive oversight of these alleged abuses. The oversight I have suggested would be performed by a select committee made up equally of Democrats and Republicans and chosen by the House speaker and the minority leader.
The committee's job would be to obtain answers -- finally. At the end of the process, if -- and only if -- the select committee, acting on a bipartisan basis, finds evidence of potentially impeachable offenses, it would forward that information to the Judiciary Committee. This threshold of bipartisanship is appropriate, I believe, when dealing with an issue of this magnitude.
Then in 2006 he took "impeachment off the table". And now as he has taken Kucinich's 35 articles of impeachment down to 1 and aggreeing to hold "hearings", he says that they will not lead to anything.
So, tomorrow we are getting an "impeachment substitute"?????
But the Michigan Democrat also left little doubt that the committee’s review was meant to fend off demands from Rep. Kucinich that Conyers initiate impeachment proceedings against Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. With
impeachment ruled out, it’s unclear how much the Judiciary Committee’s inquiry can accomplish, given Bush’s broad assertion of executive privilege when his subordinates are faced with congressional questions about criminal and other wrongdoing.
http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/07/23/10557/ So, please tell me that I am wrong about Conyers and that he will do something that leads to Bush getting thrown out more than five seconds before his term ends in January. Then back it up with actions that Conyers has undertaken. All I see is him saying one thing while doing another and attempting to jerk off the only representative who appears to give a damn about holding this criminal administration responsible.
