I love a good protest!
There's a plane flying over Downtown Atlanta (actually circling the World Congress Ctr) right now trailing a giant banner saying "UPS/DHL DESTROYING 10,000 JOBS."

I have no knowledge of the dispute, etc., but like to see folks who aren't afraid of voicing their opinion.

2. Let me tell you, from personal experience, Protest is GOOD for what ails you.
It's a definite "upper".

Let me say that I am committed to Living Peace, but Protesting allows me to VOICE the issues and concerns that I share with many others.

It feels good.

6. DHL/UPS connection
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 10:03 AM by curt_b
This refers to a soon to be consolidation of air freight services by DHL & UPS. 8-10 thousand jobs will be lost in a rural Ohio county that will be devastated. The main employer is a terrible company called ABX that sorts and packages for DHL. None the less the area can't afford this massive firing. The politicians are making the usual noises about "retooling" and "job training",and the Teamsters and Letter Carriers are doing public education, but there's little hope of reversing the situation.

The local Wilmington Ohio paper has done a decent job covering the story. I searched for ABX on there site and got a number of results:

7. good detail
thanks for the follow up Curt-B - that information helps.

Now, aside from ATL being UPS headquarters (but the offices are not in downtown - in Sandy Springs about 10 or so miles north of downtown), I wonder why the plane was flying over downtown?

8. Pilots Union (ALPA)
It looks like it's the pilots:
http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/stories/2008/07/23/dhl_ups_protest.html

"ALPA took out a half-page ad in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, saying that "UPS can save those jobs — and American families." Similar ads have run in other cities. They've also hired a billboard truck and biplane with a banner to spread the message from downtown to Sandy Springs."
