Novak issued citation after hitting pedestrian
WASHINGTON - Syndicated columnist Robert Novak said he has been issued a $50 citation after hitting a pedestrian while driving in downtown Washington.

Witnesses said the collision occurred about 10 a.m. Wednesday as the 77-year-old Novak was traveling near K Street in his black Chevrolet Corvette.

Novak told WJLA-TV he was cited for failing to yield the right of way. He said he didn't realize what happened and continued driving until a bicyclist stopped him.

David Bono, the bicyclist who witnessed the incident, told The Associated Press that the pedestrian was hit in a crosswalk and was splayed across Novak's windshield.

3. That's it??? Here's the thing, I've owned two Corvettes
and you feel every single thing. I hit a small piece of road debris in Clearwater that took a bit of paint off, and it felt like I had hit a cinder block. It wasn't splayed across my windshield either, it was in the lower driver door.

Insane.

19. Thats exactly right
if you run over a squirrel you would feel a thump or something. But this asshole had a guy stuck to his windshield and and didn't notice? Cmon how many times are we going to give this geezer a break.

This story is so absurd it's not even funny. 50 bucks for hitting someone, hmmm and we get in trouble for a parking ticket and not running anyone over. But it's ok for that miserable old fuckin prick?

Gimme a break with this shit letting these people off all the time.

5. he would have been arrested in any of the 50 states for hit and run, leaving the scene
You don't hit a pedestrian, leave, and not get arrested for it in any of the 50 states. He's lucky the biking lawyer stopped him in the same block. If the lawyer on the bike had simply gotten the tags and reported them, Novak would likely have been arrested for leaving the scene. By chasing him down and making him stay, the lawyer actually saved Novak for a worse charge being filed.

8. I haven't heard a single mention of it this afternoon or tonight on CNN or MSNBC.
Surely it is newsworthy enough to merit a brief mention, even if only as part of Keith's Worst Persons in the World.

I wasn't watching either station continuously, but I did watch the entire Countdown.

Anybody else hear it mentioned in the corporate media?

12. Worst Person
I'd have thought that it would have rated a mention in "Worst Person in the World" tonight. Maybe KO is getting backed up with them. They really only have three slots per day.

13. Why is this known drunk still allowed to drive at his age?
Why were the cops involved afraid to arrest him for a hit and run? A citation isn't it.

14. Anyone else would have been locked up for a hit & run involving serious injury.

Novak probably made a few phone calls and got some
influential wheels turning to save his wretched ass.

17. This reminds me of when Bush hit the Scottish policeman at Glen Eagles G-8
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 04:23 AM by lebkuchen
Summit while riding his bicycle. Reports were that the policeman was fine, just some scrapes and scratches. In fact, Bush broke the policeman's leg, and he was out of work for over three months.

http://news.scotsman.com/theg8/Officer-in-Bush-bike-crash.2669728.jp

Bush wasn't riding at "a pretty good speed" riding "hard on a mountain bike" because he wasn't allowed off the hotel grounds due to protesters. In fact, he was riding in a circle on the grounds around the hotel and golf course. As he went through a gate toward security, he waved his hand to say what a great country Scotland was, hit a dip, and lost control into the policeman, breaking his leg. I know Bush broke his leg because my Scottish friend's cousin was right there at the scene, working security.

Bottomline: RW rich folks like Bush and Novak have nothing but disdain for the common man and the rule of law.
