PNAC Signatories - Lest We Forget

"Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor"

Yes the PNACers have gone to ground for the moment but....

Lest we forget:

because, eventually, they have to control and pay off and kill so many people that it

become impossible.

That's why we're already up to talking about military rule --- concentration camps.

"We Think the Price Is Worth It"
Media uncurious about Iraq policy's effects- there or here

By Rahul Mahajan

Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it.

--60 Minutes (5/12/96)

Then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright's quote, calmly asserting that U.S. policy objectives were worth the sacrifice of half a million Arab children, has been much quoted in the Arabic press. It's also been cited in the United States in alternative commentary on the September 11 attacks (e.g., Alexander Cockburn, New York Press, 9/26/01).

But a Dow Jones search of mainstream news sources since September 11 turns up only one reference to the quote--in an op-ed in the Orange Country Register (9/16/01). This omission is striking, given the major role that Iraq sanctions play in the ideology of archenemy Osama bin Laden; his recruitment video features pictures of Iraqi babies wasting away from malnutrition and lack of medicine (New York Daily News, 9/28/01). The inference that Albright and the terrorists may have shared a common rationale--a belief that the deaths of thousands of innocents are a price worth paying to achieve one's political ends--does not seem to be one that can be made in U.S. mass media.

It's worth noting that on 60 Minutes, Albright made no attempt to deny the figure given by Stahl--a rough rendering of the preliminary estimate in a 1995 U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report that 567,000 Iraqi children under the age of five had died as a result of the sanctions. In general, the response from government officials about the sanctions’ toll has been rather different: a barrage of equivocations, denigration of U.N. sources and implications that questioners have some ideological axe to grind (Extra!, 3-4/00).

8. It's worth noting
That many of the 25 original signatories gained powerful posts in the first Bush maladministration or were key advisors to it, and that their speciality interest was "war as a tool of foreign policy." In effect, they were Dubya's war cabinet in waiting.

However, Dubya himself was not a signatory. But James Ellis (aka JEB) Bush was. The speculation of others (which I happen to agree with and wish I had spotted it first) is that JEB was chosen by Poopy Bush to steal the 2000 presidency.

JEB stood for Governor of Florida (the most powerful person in that state's government) at the same time that Dubya stood for Governor of Texas (a figurehead position with almost no power). JEB failed in his bid (he succeeded on his next attempt) but Dubya succeeded on his. That left one Bush brother with the credentials of Governor (albeit a figurehead one) to use in a presidential bid.

I can conceive of two reasons that Dubya and JEB stood for governorships at the same time. One if that Poopy Bush wanted a "backup" candidate in case JEB failed. Possible, but implausible or Dubya would also have been a PNAC signatory. The other is that when Dubya learned of Poopy manipulating things so that JEB had a chance of becoming Governor of Texas then Dubya threw one of his 6-year-old spoiled brat tantrums and demanded to be a Governor too. So Poopy threw him a figurehead governorship thinking the cretin couldn't do much harm (if you were educationally-subnormal, had dark skin and were sitting on death row in Texas you might have disagreed with that). Then JEB failed, Dubya was the only Bush with a chance, and Dubya succeeded where his brother failed. And that accounts for Dubya's perpetual "I just had a blow-job" smirk.

47. And may I add....
Jeb was always his father's favorite and the undisputed smart one of the bunch. I think if poopy had his choice, the son that inherited the Presidency would have been Jeb. The Texas-American Mafia's choice for Texas Governor and then President was Dumbya. He had already proved his "worth" as figurehead for near-criminal cartel that owned the Texas Rangers. He had the name, the face and he was VERY EASY to manipulate. He was perfect as the Petroleum Mafia's candidate. All they needed was to make sure their guy was just one step behind.

Remember poopy breaking down a year or so ago when giving the speech in Florida? He got off message and started waxing about poor Jebby loosing his first shot in Florida and how he did not complain. There was much speculation about poopy's tearful outburst, much of it written off to age and stress. I think poopy cried because he saw what how his family will ultimately be remembered: as spawning the worst President in American history.

64. I humbly beg to differ on one point
You enlightened me with some more background on the BFEE that I didn't know (thanks). But I have a different opinion on this point:

I think poopy cried because he saw what how his family will ultimately be remembered: as spawning the worst President in American history.

Poopy doesn't give a shit about how people regard his family as long as his family get their way.

Prescott Bush (Poopy's father) was a traitor during WWII. He acted as banker for a big coal/iron/steel magnate and even helped run some of the businesses in Poland that magnate had confiscated. He continued to do so even after the US entered the war and US troops were being killed by Germans. He continued to do so after Congress pass the "Trading with the Enemy" act to prevent people taking refuge behind the Constitutional definition of treason ("giving aid and comfort to the enemy") - Prescott wasn't giving his services to the Germans, he was being paid for them. Eventually the gov't confiscated Prescott's German assets (but kept it hushed up for fear it would weaken morale). But the gov't didn't know about all of Prescott's German assets and those he still had he continued to run until the war ended. The confiscated assets were returned after the war and consitute the basis of the Bush family fortune. Their fortune comes from Prescott overseeing business that used concentration camp inmates as slaves.

Poopy lied the US into an unnecessary war in Iraq. But you probably already know the details about that one.

So Poopy doesn't give a shit what the untermenschen think of him or his family, provided they don't get it into their heads to rebel.

Here's my opinion on why Poopy wept. He and Cheney had cooked up a wonderful plan. It involved Jeb stealing an election. Then a false-flag operation that would justify them putting in place repressive laws; getting the war in Iraq they'd wanted for years; and all their obscenely-rich cronies getting even richer (as would Poopy and Cheney). To top it all would come a second false-flag operation that would allow them to suspend presidential elections and impose martial law "for the duration" (and since the war on terra never ends) Jeb would be the first of what was effectively a royal dynasty.

But then Jeb lost the election and Dubya had to take over. But Poopy knows what a fucktard Dubya is, and he'd be bound to screw up. And by "screw up" I mean screw up Poopy's plan, not screw up the US economy and reputation (since the wrecking of those was an inherent part of the plan).

No wonder Poopy sobbed buckets. At any moment Dubya might not only ruin the entire plan but set in place a chain of events that would result in life sentences for Dubya, Cheney and Poopy (and probably have people demanding that Prescott be exhumed so that he too could be imprisoned).

75. George & Barbara barely noticed GWB's win in 1994; too upset over Jeb's loss.
Dad, the Bottle, Vietnam
By Jonathan Alter, Newsweek columnist

I see Bush’s behavior as the result of three major forces: the dad, the bottle, and the Vietnam War. For most of his life, Bush tried and failed to follow in his absent father’s footsteps. His father was a war hero; Bush a no-show Guardsman dodging Vietnam. His father did well in the oil business; Bush struck dry holes. His father got elected to Congress; Bush was defeated in 1978. A collection of Bush Sr.’s letters contains far more to Jeb than George W. Finally, in 1994, Bush was elected governor of Texas, but George and Bar were so upset that their anointed son, Jeb, lost the election that night for the governorship of Florida that they barely seemed to notice.

Feinstein was brought on in August specifically to do "outreach"—to bring in foreign-policy experts to counter the Obama recruitment effort. And, he says, there is no cause for jealousy: Hillary has scores of former officials from her husband's administration advising her."

Richard Holbrooke

"The main Hillary enforcer has been Richard Holbrooke, Bill Clinton's former U.N. ambassador (and an aspiring secretary of State), says a senior adviser to Obama, who would also discuss personnel matters only anonymously. "

Very interesting list, thanks for posting it....

37. I'm upset, appalled and disgusted to see union leaders on the list.
John Sweeney, Lane Kirkland. WTF is that all about? It's bad enough very few workers are in unions these days, which of course makes it easier for Corporate America to run roughshod over workers, but are the leaders of what unions we do have selling out workers? I must be missing something here.

shows which people signed the different letters.

FWIW Schumer is not on their list.

40. Thanks this is much more informative than the simple list in the OP.
While the original signatures is a mark of shame indeed, the second list are people who signed open letters on various topics that are not necessarily an endorsement of the original PNAC objectives.

Webb signed a letter in support of Taiwan. Biden and other one time signors were on a letter stating we should support democracy in Russia.

although I doubt certain people would have associated themselves with PNAC.

Equally, and maybe even more important, is the A Clean Break document which I linked to below.

76. Another one of those amazing incidences of cosmic synchronicity...
...that surround the official 9/11 conspiracy theory and make it so insulting to anyone of average intelligence or above.

Weiner's article mentions this document, The National Security Strategy of the United States of America, which emerged from the bowels of the NSC in Sept. 2002. Here's the usual PNAC-style rhetoric from the doc's intro section:

We will defend the peace by fighting terrorists and tyrants. We will preserve the peace by building good relations among the great powers. We will extend the peace by encouraging free and open societies on every continent.

Defending our Nation against its enemies is the first and fundamental commitment of the Federal Government. Today, that task has changed dramatically. Enemies in the past needed great armies and great industrial capabilities to endanger America. Now, shadowy networks of individuals can bring great chaos and suffering to our shores for less than it costs to purchase a single tank. Terrorists are organized to penetrate open societies and to turn the power of modern technologies against us.

To defeat this threat we must make use of every tool in our arsenal—military power, better homeland defenses, law enforcement, intelligence, and vigorous efforts to cut off terrorist financing. The war against terrorists of global reach is a global enterprise of uncertain duration. America will help nations that need our assistance in combating terror. And America will hold to account nations that are compromised by terror, including those who harbor terrorists— because the allies of terror are the enemies of civilization.

Ah yes... those gosh darn enemies of civilization. And we're not even talking about the real perpetrators, terrorists and enemies of civilization who spend their time hanging out at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., plotting new ways to destroy what's left of this country, its people, its laws, its economy, its institutions and its international reputation.

Anyway, two years later, in 2004, we find out that the author of this blueprint for implementing the PNAC "vision" of imperialist expansionism abroad and lock-down totalitarianism at home was none other than good ol' Philip Zelikow, whose next official job was executive director of the 9/11 Commission, where he controlled the day-to-day operations of the commission, deciding who would be interviewed, who would be placed under oath and who wouldn't, what evidence the commission would consider and what would be off limits... only the whole nine yards.

Zelikow's role with the 9/11 commission creates a conflict of interest with his role as author of the paper that justifies the Bushies' new doctrine of preemptive war.

Since "the events of 9/11"(tm) were the catalysts and sole justifications for the attacks on Afghanistan and then Iraq, it was in Zelikow's own best interests to make sure the commission ratified the official conspiracy theory.

Otherwise his work on the preemption doctrine could be seen as a CYA exercise; an effort to make the strikes against the two targets seem to be a result of the new military dogma he wrote about. He needed to make certain that the public bought the idea that the attacks were part of a tragic but inevitable sequence of events driven by escalating tensions and incontrovertible evidence of emerging threats to this country.

Amazing how these fuckers just keep rising from their crypts, roaming the countryside and doing as much damage to all life on earth as they can squeeze in before sunrise sends them scurrying back into the darkness.

What kind of exterminator do you have to hire to rid the planet of these vermin once and for all? Would tenting the White House and pumping in 20X the amount of the pest control industry's standard toxins do the trick? Is there a specific methodology that's proven effective for vampire abatement? Or is the old stake through the heart still the preferred method?

There's got to be something that can end this infestation of dangerous wingnut loons before they really do go down in flames and take the rest of us with them. WW III anyone? A new Cuban missile crisis, only this time with madmen sitting in the White House situation room? Longer-term global ecocide, aided, abetted and cheered on by these slime buckets?

You name it, they're capable of it. Unlike a certain democratic congressional suck-up and PNAC tool who takes her orders from her corporate sugar daddies rather than the people who elected her, nothing's "off the table" for these zealots.

Mr "Europe Europe uber alles" himself? Most odd. I've long suspected that the mythology of the EU as a kinder, gentler alternative to American wild west capitalism was a PR stunt designed to sell Europeans the same piss in a different bottle. TGA's name on that list would appear to confirm that.

73. I knew Robert Zoellick when I lived in Naperville, Illinois
I did much of my growing up in Naperville, Illinois, and Robert Zoellick lived just half a block from where I did. I knew Robert, his older brother, and his mother. His older brother was a year ahead of me in school, and I was three years ahead of Robert in school.

I remember Naperville being very Republican when I lived there; many people voted for Barry Goldwater in 1964.

Obviously Robert Zoellick has associated himself with and become involved with a bad crowd of people.
