There is a disgusting article at the Enquirer about John Edwards....
I haven't seen it discussed at DU.

Is anyone else aware of this article? I can't believe that there is any truth to it.

Not discussing it won't make it go away.

3. You don't mean that bastion of truth
and integrity, the National Enquirer, do you? Because if that's the Enquirer you're referring to, that's tabloid trash that few take seriously, nor should they.

5. Yeah, well, sadly they were first to report on Rush's Oxy addiction...
and that turned out to be true.

10. Much as we may dislike to admit it
the Enquirer some time get their stories correct.

If you read this article you might come away with the attitude that there was fire within this smoke.

I know I did.

check it out, read it and decide for your self.

It is the intellectually honest way of approaching this matter.

sort of a training ground for bottom of the barrel idiots trying to break into the fake news biz.

9. Yeah, well they reported the Rush/oxycontin thing before anyone else...
and it took the MSM awhile to pick it up.

So they're not always wrong...but neither is a stopped clock.

7. I found it on the web last night
and I read it.

sad to say if the read the whole article, you may come away with the reasonable conclusion that they (the Enquirer reporters) caught Edward with his pants down (so to speak).

They pretty much had him dead to rights.

Believe me if this had happened to a repuke type congress critter we would be touting it big time.

I have a hunch that more than a little of this is accurate.

But that is just me.

I love Elizabeth, and I really really hope that there's no truth to it.

14. Are you talking about the National Enquirer?
the supermarket tabloid with stories about alien babies and wolfboys and claiming they offer some truth to their stories...that National Enquirer? I haven't read the story, I have no clue what this is all about, the source alone, makes me doubt seriously any truth in it.

16. No the Enquirer does not do alien babies or wolfboys
It may be trash but it does not do those freaky stories. Who did those stories was Weekly World News. I hate when DU'ers trot that out. Get your facts straight!

And I think this one may just be true.

24. Even a broken clock is right twice a day
this rag will report anything given to it and not bother with sources. Every now and again one of the pieces are right because even they can't screw up everything they touch no matter how hard they try.

Until it's been confirmed by at least one _real_ news outlet I'll let it go as probably bullshit.

this one just seems to ring true to me.

Would not be surprised if some more reputable and better respected news papers or organizations pick this up and advance with it (and you can bet you bank account that will happen if Obama picks him as veep).

22. Even if it's true, so what?
Anyone who has run for president or vice-president isn't perfect and probably has a bit of an ego. If politicians have affairs, only their family need be concerned. I'm only concerned about how they vote and what they get accomplished.

27. So? It's her job to deal with it, not yours
Respect for someone else means not infantilizing them by thinking we can do their jobs better than they can.

If it's a true story, she's known about it for some time. She's too sharp not to.

If it's false, she's probably gotten a good laugh over it with him.

30. Well, considering that his relationship with Elizabeth has been something...
that he's allowed to become media fodder...public interviews with his wife, and such...it is my right to hope that it's NOT true, for HER sake.

And because she's a member of DU, I hope she knows that many of the women on DU love her and care for her well-being.

35. Maybe, but it's his wife's situation to deal with.
JFK had affairs by the day and the press knew about it back then. It just wasn't considered relevant news back then. I still agree with that 1960's attitude vs. the tabloid journalism we have today.

36. So this is how it plays out? I thought we were smarter than this.
Politics 101.

Turn your opponent's strength against him.

Create a whisper campaign that no one can actually prove, yet the burden is on him to disprove.

It looks to me that Edwards is close to the top of Obama's VP list. That is the only truth to come out of this.

38. Show me the fucking proof
And no, an article in the Enquirer does NOT constitute proof. Since both Edwards and his alleged mistress are denying this affair, the only thing they have to go on is this sensationalist bullshit.

And the last time I checked, Edwards was not building his career as a "family values" guy, like so many fundie repukes. So even if he's having an affair, I'm not going to hold that against him as harsh as I would these high-and-mighty repugs.

39. I heard too liberal hosts talk about this story today
and they weren't saying it's untrue.

A local Pittsburgh host did an hour on it. Ed Schultz touched on it briefly beginning of his show.

I hope it's not true. It really is John and Elizabeth's business, but I will admit I'd think a lot less of him if true. It smacks of what Gingrich and McCain did to their first wives.

I think it's really sleazy of men whether it's JFK, McCain, Gingrich, Rudy, Bill Clinton, Spitzer or Edwards.

Look how Spitzer went down. Heck last year there were many of us here at DU who wanted Spitzer to be the next Dem AG!
