Robert Novak Cited for Hitting Pedestrian
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 10:43 AM by RamboLiberal
On edit the story:

Syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak was cited by police after he hit a pedestrian with his black Corvette in downtown Washington, D.C., Wednesday morning.

A Politico reporter saw Novak in the front of a police car with a citation in his hand; a WJLA-TV crew and reporter saw Novak as well. The pedestrian was hospitalized but there were no details about the person’s condition. Novak was later released and left the scene.

“I didn’t know I hit him,” Novak told Politico. Novak said he was a block away when a bicyclist stopped him and said, "You hit someone." He said he was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

D.C. police confirmed that there was an accident at 18th and K streets N.W. at approximately 10 a.m. involving a black Corvette convertible and that the driver was a white male.

WJLA has story:

Prominent Washington commentator Robert Novak was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian Wednesday morning after striking a pedestrian with his Corvette, Novak confirmed to ABC 7 News.

The collision happened about 10:07 a.m. at 18th and K streets NW.

Novak was not arrested. He spoke to ABC 7 News at the scene. Novak said he did not know he had struck anyone.

Metropolitan Police Department (web|news) officers detained Novak at the scene for about an hour.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said the pedestrian complained of pain in his arm was taken to George Washington University Hospital with minor injuries.

he cares about nothing and noone but himself. Get the fuck out of his way, or he'll run you over. That's pretty much his attitude.

Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 10:40 AM by Godlesscommieprevert
Novak, 77, has earned a reputation around the capital as an aggressive driver, easily identified in his convertible sports car.

In 2001, the longtime political columnist cursed at a pedestrian on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 13th Street N.W., for allegedly jaywalking.

“’Learn to read the signs, !’ Novak snapped before speeding away,” according to an item in The Washington Post’s Reliable Source column.

Novak explained to the paper: "He was crossing on the red light. I really hate jaywalkers. I despise them. Since I don't run the country, all I can do is yell at 'em. The other option is to run 'em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that."

18. Sounds like a metaphor for his life.
He probably really didn't see the pedestrian. Tuned him out like he tunes out all the other human consequences to his tunnel vision ideas.

Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 10:47 AM by johnlal
since gasoline prices went up. I know at least two of them hit the news here, one of them fatal. I witnessed one accident, and I know a guy that was hit. I think with gas prices the way they are, we're going to see more pedestrians and cyclists injured.
Keep an eye out for them and share the road!

24. Novak in a Corvette?
That's the last car I'd picture him in.
Maybe a Cadillac Escalade, or a Hyundai, or even better, a 1917 Maxwell like Mr. Magoo drove, but a Corvette seems too sporty for the old crackpot.

It probably belongs to whoever's bread he's buttering this week.

27. it sounds as if he side-swiped the pedestrian
if the guy was only complaining of pain in his arm, that would be consistent with taking a turn too tightly and clipping a pedestrian. a head-on hit would mean more complaints by the pedestrian. it would make novak's claim to not be aware he hit anyone more plausible, though perhaps even more disturbing.
