Joe Scarborough Making Excuses for John McCain
Did anyone see the segment of Morning Joe where host Joe Scarborough tried to make excuses for John McCain's inaccurate statement that the surge brought about the Anbar Awakening. Scarborough started off and took about a minute or two to insult bloggers by saying they were people setting in front of their computers, eating cheeseball, and googling Anbar Awakening while rubbing the cheeseball droppings all over their chests. Then Scarborough tried to use WWII and the invasion of Normandy to prove McCain's statement had been accurate. Scarborough stated that WWII started on a particular date and then later there was the Normandy invasion and how things lasted for a few years after that. Scarborogh then stated the Anbar Awakening started and then the surge happened six months later and things go better so the surge had in fact helped make the Anbar Awakening successful; therefore, McCain's statements were actually correct.

However, I contend and I believe the fact show that John McCain did not say the surge helped make the Anbar Awakening successful, but that the surge had brought about the Anbar Awakening.

"I don't know how you respond to something that is such a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel McFarlane (phonetic) was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history."

Scarborough, in his segment, tried to claim McCain had stated the surge helped make the Anbar Awakening a success. It is very different to claim something caused another thing than to claim something helped another thin succeed. Therefore, Scarborough is wrong in his attempt to claim blogger got it wrong when the stated McCain missed the timeline.

1. Someone needs to draw out a very simple timeline.
Ending with Mccain's statement.

2. I didn't watch it today.
But what is their obsession with cheese balls and cheetos on that set? Whenever they get caught in a lie or someone emails them, they start going off about how these people are eating cheetos in their parent's basement, on the computer all day. They can't stand the thought that they are disgustingly uninformed. Their general contempt for the public reminds me of something....oh yeah...the contempt emenating from the McCain campaign.

I heard that he went off on KO and Anderson Cooper or something, what did he say?

5. He must have been referring to Cooper since JS said someone on "another network"
although Keith said something similar regarding the timeline.

Anyway, JS basically said, "anyone who doesn't understand that the Anbar Awakening only successed because of the surge is an idiot and doesn't belong on television."

That was in the 6 to 7 a.m hour.

10. I went back and listened to an eruption he had at about 6:11 am EDT
and I transcribed this one part where he sounded particularly childish. He was attacking the hosts and bloggers who were reporting on the Katie Couric/McCain interview and the creative editing they did to conceal McCain's gaffe/fuzzy facts.

He seemed angry, stuttering at times, and just ran on. This is the best I could make out of what he said. It's hard to follow, but here goes:

"Let me tell you, and I know a couple of hosts ran this last night, made a huge deal because a liberal blogger picked it up. I will guarantee the host that ran it and were waving their arms, had NO idea, whether the Sunni awakening or, or, or the surge began at the same time.....They also. Anybody that would argue that the Sunni awakening would have survived in Al Anbar province, without the surge... anybody who would make that argument is so ignorant of the facts on the ground in western Iraq, in Al Anbar province, in what the Sunni sheiks were doing throughout 2007, that they are too stupid to be on TV. So, I hope they don't carry that argument too much longer because it is laughable."

His anger and agitation prevented him from communicating clearly.
(to put it nicely)

11. That's the segment I heard
I couldn't imagine he would call out fellow MSNBC staffers so I just presumed he made a reference to another network.

However, both KO and Dan Abrams picked on the McCain goof last night and based on your transcription it sounds like he's raging on people "in house". So, it does appear that JS was sh*tting where he works.

I imagine Joe's going to be watching Mika run his show again while he sits at home for the next few days.

3. Won't matter.. He's got 3 uninterrupted hours, 5 days a week to say whatever HE wants
and we have the first 15 minutes of Keith's show to try and counter the lies..:grr:

4. I heard that too! I am in a different room than the teevee and I
hollered, "Bullshit"! Not like me....but I was so infuriated. Guess I'll be writing to MSNBC AGAIN this morning. JS is masterful at spinning.

6. Does The Term "Rapid Response" Mean Anything???
Last night you could see all the bobbleheads just hoping, wishing, turning over any and every rock for an Obama gaffe. He flubbed up using Israel in America in an address and that got its own segment. Others try to make up for the lack of a serious mess-up that he's "overstepping his authority"...trying to look like a President ya know.

You also know that inside RNC's den of corruption are a dozen operatives digging through any and every little thing about Obama and dissecting every word he say, every fact he cites and any image he presents and will be out within the hour with some attack. It's called Politics, Joey...deal with it.

What pisses off GOOPers like Joey is that for years his puppetmasters have had almost exclusive control of the media and the message. Now there's an alternative media that's evovled in reaction to the corporate control and this is the threat. I think he, and other GOOPers are starting to show a little shell-shock here...seems like every day they have to cover for another Gramps mess and it must get frustrating these days. Here's hoping his head explodes by November.

7. and yet, some guy in his mommy's basement is able to "recreate"
a document, and the "liberal media" holds that up as "truth"?

With that event, the Right-wing legitimized bloggers, to their detriment ...

Right click it, choose properties, and when the url comes up, copy that and save it in a notepad file.

Then, when appropriate, open that notepad file, copy the url and just paste it into any DU post without any html.
Voila!
