Hubert Humphrey on the measure of a society
"The moral test of government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped."

I think that pretty well sums up why I'm a liberal.

5. Every Dem should have to read this as a summary
of what we are supposed to stand for. I can't think of any issues that our opponents stand for that support these beliefs. It's tragic that we've drifted so far away from these beliefs because we think the other ones are more popular, and with the economy in decline our own ideals will become more and more in demand by more and more people.
