It's the best bulwark envisioned so far to protect workers against cruel management. Labor unions aren't perfect, but I haven't seen a better way to defend worker rights against management power.

doing the right thing and pay dues in spite of the fact you don't have to.

I don't know much about how it is in Florida, but open shops allow people to get the benefits of a Union negotiated compensation package without joining the Union.

I lost my job (layoff) in mid-April, and I got lucky enough to find a higher-paying job in 16 days. So I know the feeling! I feel so badly for people out there who apply and interview for months or sometimes even years with no luck - it's horrible out there.

in times like this. I joined IBEW couple decades back, voted in 100% at a remote hospital that was abusing us on low wages and long hours. Salaries went up, benefits appeared and working conditions improved. Labor unions certainly can get corrupt too, but they keep a check on the worst abuses, and I think they are sorely needed in these times to fight for workers' rights. Go union.

I got a job too, but it ain't union but it does have a couple of perks. Like 5, 8 hour sick days and the holidays too. It's a cool feeling for sure. Peace
