Do you admire the loyalty of Republican voters??
It amazes me the number of people that still defend and support George W. Bush. I try to put myself in their shoes. If a Democratic President had done the things that Bush has done, would I still support him? Hell no!

He may as well have taken a dump on their kitchen floor. They would find a way to rationalize it. Oh, he didn't know where the bathroom was or he couldn't make it to the bathroom. Just as they rationalize that everybody thought Saddam had WMDs? It's a better world now that he is gone? Or who cares what the rest of the world thinks of us? Or if a terrorist has a nuclear bomb and ready to kill my family, it's OK to torture him? Or I don't have anything to hide - the government can spy on me anytime they want??

It's insanity. How can anyone with the sense God gave a goose support this crap? Is it just part of Darwin's law? Or is it that they simply cannot admit they were wrong? They cannot accept responsibility for the deaths and the misery that their support has caused in the world? Therefore, they look for any rationale to justify their continued support? Is that why they remain loyal to these vermin?

2. What it is, is the authoritarian personality.
It's handing the moral choices over to "somebody who knows better", and thus relieving themselves of that responsibility.

6. They have no confidence in their own decisions?
I think you are right, in that, whatever their leaders say, they buy it without question. It seems to be a very insecure and fearful individual that would forfeit their right to think for themselves over to someone like George W. Bush???

Blind loyalty to any politician, or any political party, for that matter, is asking for trouble. Critical thinking seems to be in short supply these days.

To support Bush (either now or in the past) - you'd have to be truly ignorant or truly corrupt. Nothing admirable about that kind of loyalty.

I have some issues with those who feel the same about the democratic party - we must vote for all democrats all the time, and their actual policies or stances on issues should be subordinate to that mantra.

13. I admire the fact that their blind loyalty defeats their opposition.

These lemmings are told what to think, and do it. And as such, when they are properly motivated they take away any chance at progress.

They don't want to think at all, just react. This is what the press is there for. To create 5 word sentences that can be repeated over and over, with no context, so these people can remember what they're supposed to do.

This is why the "Obama is a Muslim" crap continues. It can be repeated constantly, right next to anger over Reverend Wright. Isn't that contradictory? Nope, not for these people.

The only threat to the Republicans is a Rep. candidate that is bad at the same time as a Democratic candidate that isn't terrible. Kerry was terrible. It's why the Republicans wanted Hillary on the ticket so badly as they could vilify her with no relation to the truth.

This year, the Republicans can't promote their candidate. They have to go out of their way to destroy Obama. Destroying Obama does two things. 1: It energizes their side, increasing their voting numbers. 2: It demoralizes Democrats, reducing their numbers. Obama voted badly for FISA! I'm staying home! And the Republican cycle continues.

17. And those leaders that would take advantage of their stupidity or...
blind loyalty, have no problem telling them what they want to hear and they have great confidence in their ability to destroy their opponents by character assassination and ridicule. Politics is not about policies to these people. It is about getting power and retaining it. It is not about governing for the good of the people - it is about destroying the government of the people. But they speak in platitudes and codes for the simple-minded amongst us so that they will continue to pull the lever for the Greedy Old Party...

22. No I do not.
I abhor loyalty over critical thinking. I think it is almost always a cop out and a reason to have an opinion even if it is not your own. It is a need to belong so strong that people are willing to let their own minds go blank. That is the reason I am so distressed seeing it become an issue here. While I am no longer a Democrat I am most likely to vote for them,or some of them, but the longer this need for blind loyalty goes on the farther away from any democratic principles they travel.

There is a case to be made for loyalty in the old sense of the word. A person can be on the same side, defend it to the death, but still be allowed to differ. That is what makes a party strong, truly strong and viable. Now loyalty seems to mean you do not question nor do you doubt nor do you ever try to change things (real true change). Blech. It makes us all weak and stupid.

23. Actually I don't admire it when Dems do it either
When election day comes, I always pull the lever, punch the chad, touch the screen, whatever it is, for the Democrat because honestly that has always been the right choice from an objective standpoint. However, that does not mean that everything a Democrat does is right just because they happen to be one. If I ever had to vote for a Lieberman, a Zell Miller, or someone of that ilk I might have some issues. Actually, I DO have to face Bill Nelson's name on my touchscreen and it is AWFULLY hard to vote for him. Nonetheless, the last time I had a choice it made more sense to vote for him than not.

If ever a Democratic president goes as batshit crazy as Bush has done, he/she loses my support.

31. Must be.
Sometimes I think it changes as you get older. For me the level is pretty low. There is good bat shit crazy of course, I like that but then there is bad bat shit crazy and I can take very little of that. Something about letting in Roberts and Alito without a real fight (I know I know and I do not care if they did not have the votes) exceeded my limit. FISA? Oh yeah, that is enough to make the top of my head blow off. Letting crazies, criminals or bigots work spots for you, oh yeah waaay past it. Those cases are way above my limit. :)

26. Somebody has to root for the major league farm clubs, I suppose
How else to explain people who still follow the Pirates or the Royals? Loyal Republicans who aren't in line for the revenue stream of the corruption are really without any reason whatsoever except maybe their own political inertia. They're gulled by lines like "smaller government" or "responsible spending" and blind to the realities of government snooping into their lives and record high budget deficits. Or, rather than admit a mistake, they continue down a self-destructive path, stubbornly clinging to a choice that made some kind of sense when it was made, but which is no longer justified by decades of corruption and incompetence.

The ones (liberal or conservative) I don't have any respect for are the ones who care so little that they can't be bothered to actually cast a ballot.

So, yes, I admire the loyalty of republican voters. They may be misguided, but at least they are participating.
