rise in a barrel of oil and how slow they are to go down again when we have a 12% decrease in a barrel of oil in two days.

2. You have to figure what the gas stations bought it for
and what the refineries had to pay for it.
I think it's remarkable that Smirky gave that speech and almost instantly the price per barrel went down so fast.
He shoulda given that magic speech months ago.

4. Nope. Gas stations raise their prices on the NEWS of higher oil prices
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 08:20 AM by Romulox
(well before they've purchased any of the more expensive gasoline.) But they only reduce it long after they've actually purchased the cheaper gasoline.

These practices would not be possible in a truly competitive market.

3. For whatever reason, oil companies and gas stations are allowed to price fix
Any other industry would be hammered by an anti-trust action if they conducted themselves in the manner that oil companies and gas stations do.

The reason prices stay high is that the players involved agree to limit competition.

7. Because Dollar Devaluation
Is the main cause behind the prices we're seeing at the pump.
