Interviews with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid - December 2010
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 04:14 PM by kentuck
Q - "Ms Pelosi, why do you think you were defeated as Speaker of the House and subsequently for your House seat in California?"

A - "Basically, I think the far left and bloggers, in particular, created a wave of propaganda against me and it created a large enough backlash to allow my opponents to defeat me."

Q - "But, do you think your refusal to hold the Bush Administration accountable and your decision to take impeachment off the table had anything to do with your defeat?"

A - "No, I really don't. I think it was just those very partisan and negative stories on the Internet and the blogs that caused Democrats to perceive me in a more negative light."

and...

Q - Senator Reid, how is everything going out in Searchlight, NV?"

A - It's going very well. I am spending a lot of time with my family and doing a lot of fishing."

Q - "As I asked Congresswoman Pelosi, do you think your refusal to stand up to George W Bush and your decision that the Constitution was really not that important to voters had anything to do with your defeat?"

A - "No, not really. Sometimes voters just want a change and I am very proud of my record in the US Senate. I regret that we were not able to accomplish more but we tried very hard..."

Q - "A question for both of you? Do you sleep well at night?

3. Honest answer to question of reelection by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid
"We were not reelected because the price of gasoline rose to $10 a gallon and we opposed short term solutions. We should have allowed further exploration and drilling in the Gulf of Mexico where infrastructure was available. We could have legislated that oil produced in the new fields would be considered a strategic necessity and could only be used in the United States. That oil could have been online in one to three years. We could have required the oil companies to contribute a portion of their profits for development of wind, solar, geothermal, wave, clean coal and nuclear power. We could have promoted development of electrical vehicles as well as vehicles powered by natural gas and compressed air."

"Had we approved drilling in new areas of the Gulf of Mexico the cost of oil would have dropped significantly. We then would have had the time to develop green energy sources. Unfortunately, because we delayed, the Chinese and the Cubans beat us to the new oil fields. The unfortunate oil spill that ruined some Florida beaches resulted because the Chinese fail to take environmental controls as seriously as we do."

"While we pushed for green energy plans, the implementation and the benefit was indeed years in the future. The economy collapsed when Israel attacked Iran and the Gulf of Hormuz was closed for three months. The amount of oil in the strategic reserve wasn't enough to offset the rise in the price of oil."

"We failed because we listened to Big Oil and the corporations that contribute to our campaigns. We should have worked with the Republicans to come up with a comprehensive energy policy that would have allowed this country to become truly energy independent. It would have been difficult, but with the help of the American people we might have been able to pass a good plan despite Republican opposition."

"We also failed in our efforts to protect the rights of average citizens in the U.S. The FISA bill was misused and many innocent people were harassed and lost their freedom. The others began to see that they no longer had any right to privacy and therefore were no longer free."

We could have impeached Bush and his cohorts, but we failed because we lacked resolve. We had plenty of reasons and plenty of evidence but we were simply afraid of the reaction of the voters.

"To sum everything up, we failed to get reelected because we just didn't do anything. We promised a lot and because of that we were elected. When we failed to deliver and the economy went to shit the American people decided to replace us. Fortunately, they also decided to replace all the Republicans who were up for reelection."

"I guess we woke up a sleeping giant."
*******
The answer you'll probably get is "It's all the Republican's fault!"
