Khephra
Hey everybody. It was two years January since Scott left us,
seems to me at times like yesterday.

The other day I was trying to just open my mail on Yahoo and
when I signed in instead of my mail, up came the post I sent
all of you the day Khephra died. All your postings were there
and I read each and every one and wept again at all the
outpouring of love for my beloved son.

I would like an up-date on everyone. I understand Skinner is
a daddy now..congratulations!

I feel Khephra around me many times. He is still leaving
pennies in my path and I do believe he is responsible for me
being directed to you all again.

My life has changed dramatically. I graduated from school and
am now working as a medical coder at St. Vincent's Hospital. I
got married February 8, 2007 after not dating for 25 years,
how about that! He is from Austria, is a pilot and flight
instructor traveling all over the US. He is in California at
this moment. Next month I will be moving to Terre Haute,
Indiana and commute to Indy.

I feel Khephra sent him to me. I went on BBW (Big Beautiful
Woman) dating website. I was on there for three months justing
talking when Walter responded. He was only on there for 5
days!
At one point I told him about the pennies and they have begun
to be in his path as well. I flew to Reno to meet him when we
got married. He arrived first and set up our suite with
flowers, wine...etc. He told me when he opened the
door...there was a penny. Sort of freaked him out! It was in
the middle of my plate for me to find when I got there.

Do you know what attracted Walter to me (besides the obvious),
HA! My profile said, and I quote: "If you think Bush is
the next best thing since sliced bread, I am not for
you." He wrote to me, "I will not be breaking bread
with Bush anytime soon." That got my attention and a
beautiful friendship started.

I am happier than I have ever been in my life although the
heavy saddness is a thought away. I don't want to ever stop
thinking about my sweet son even when it brings tears. He will
always be alive in my heart.

I believe Scott is creating change each and every day for our
country. I meet Al Gore on April 24 where he will be
lecturing. I will go with the family that sponsors a lecture
series in the name of Sam Smulyan who passed away. One year
ago I meet President Clinton the same way. I told him I
needed a hug...and he hugged me! He has the softest face on a
man I have ever felt!!!. Well enough about me. Tell what has
been going on in your lives.

Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 06:17 PM by Jax
for me personally, DU has been very different since he left us.

His version of the Democratic Party and mine were very simpatico.

He was a great Dean supporter, I did not help Dean, but khephra helped me get through those primaries.

He had a true heart of gold and a soul to match.

khephra, you are with me every single day. you changed me for the better. I'll be seeing you.

alyce

On edit for Mamakheph..You did great Mom, Scott gave so much to so many asking nothing back. Thank you for sharing that incredible soul with all of us, we are all better for it.

I am just getting back on the bike after a long winter break.

Cool about your new career as well.

Yeah, I think of Keph from time to time. Don't really feel like he's gone. More like his output has just gone down.

Two years. Wow.

Blessed Be,

Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 06:23 PM by Flubadubya
I know that heaviness that you are talking about, but
at the same time I know she is still with me in the undying,
unconditional love that only a mother can have. Oddly, life
actually seems somehow sweeter since her passing because I
have the pervading sense of her kindness and love and know
that she has many "pennies" to toss along my path yet.

And how we all loved Khephra! It really is so wonderful to
hear from you and to hear that your life is moving ever upward.
Just as you have said, and I know it is true, that dear sweet
son of yours is still beckoning you and moving you along the
best path your life can take.

Although deeply sorrowful, there is at the same time a sort of
wistful beauty in the memories of our departed loved ones. Even
in death they can still help make our lives better.

God bless you and what a wonderful encounter finding your post
today. Someone :) led me to it!

26. Dear mamakheph
Oh how I miss Kheph, I wondered how about you so often, at the time I could not imagine the grief you were going through. Then the May after Kheph died my own son died at 20. I learned quickly that the loss of a son/ ( or child) is something that one never gets over. I remember that you posted that the sci-fi channel had come on the TV "by itself" and it comforted you so. I felt the same gladness when similar things happened after Chris died. The the lights and TV were turned on several times in his room the first six months in the middle of the night. One time it happened in the middle of the day when my back was turned away from it. There were other things too so I was glad you had told me about the sci-fi thing because the little happenings were such a comfort.
About the pennies. They truly are everywhere. Yesterday one literally flew out of some unfinished Chris paper work that I had yet to deal with. I have every one of them in a special jar.
I am happy to hear from you and your good news, I became a grandma for the first time last June, I understand and appreciate joy so much more now having experienced such grief. Please stay in touch with all of us at DU. It's not the same without Kheph but we are still here.

47. May the pennies multiply as his LBN postings did
Khephra was a daily part of my life. Though I never met him, his work had a huge effect on me. He was also important to so many other people here, who relied on him every day to find the best news sources.

When I heard that he died, I went a little crazy and kept kicking his threads up to the top of LBN, partly as a tribute, partly because I wanted to deny that he was gone.

It sounds as if he is very much there for you, still, and his little signs to you mean that you're on the right path. I wish you every happiness, Mamakheph. Your son was one in a million.

I think of him everytime I go to LBN or other forums and think that if Keph were here all would be organized and reported as it should be.

Also, I'm very delighted that you are happy as well. Yes, he seems to be connecting with some sensitive DUers as well.

53. Mamakheph, I miss him too.
Scott was wondrous. He was inspiring, crazy as a bat outta hell, compassionate, intelligent and cared more than any three people I've ever known.

Thank you for giving us to him, even for such a short while. He doesn't live in anyone's heart - he lives in EVERYONE's heart who has ever had the privilege to know him.

Kheph, meet my FIL - he died Saturday and will enjoy playing havoc with the rest of us non-spiritual (yet) types with you! :loveya:

Your son was beloved for a reason. I am SO glad to hear you're doing well, because that's exactly what he'd want.

Scott, see ya at my FIL's memorial service. I know you'll be there.

:hugs: Mamakeph :hugs:

I had not been long on DU when your son left us, so I can't really say I knew him. But the outpouring of grief from longtime members told me how much he was valued and loved. It sounds like he has become your guardian angel, and I hope he also watches over DU and its members. We need all the help we can get!

62. I had the pleasure of meeting your son
We met at a DU gathering in DC to participate in the first anti-Iraq war protest. This was before we even invaded. There were some wonderful DU'ers there...Will Pitt, Matcom, LynnSin, radio host Mike Malloy and his wife Kathy. When I first arrived, I learned that Senator Wellstone had been killed and felt as though I were in a state of shock for the rest of the evening. I also had a bit too much wine and your son took care of me. I'm not sure I would have made it to my room without Scott's arm to hold on to.

I feel a special bond with you Mamakheph because I too have lost a son. It was many years ago and time does indeed heal, but it's the most excruciating pain a human being will ever feel in life and there's a soft place in my heart for what you've been through.

I wish you all the best in your new life ahead and know your son will never be forgotten by many.

66. Hi Mamakheph
Your son brightened the darkest time our country has seen. I was just missing him again when I came back to GD and saw this.

I'm not doing very well. I have a really gross health problem, Sudden Obnoxious Boyfriend Syndrome (SOBS, if you will), still unemployed and staying at mum's, and oh yeah, I'm barking mad. The mumster got a cute little doggie.

I'm glad you found someone, and :toast: to your employed status! And a hug from Bill Clinton, that's pretty cool. I've only ever gotten a hug from Dennis Kucinich, and he's a very nice man, but probably not as comfy as ol' BigDog.

Thanks for posting, it's like a penny from Khephera, kinda sorta. :hi:

Thank you for the wonderful update.

Often I think of Kheph when I remember the lead up to the IWR vote. He kept the Senate Watch threads going while Senator Robert Byrd stood alone on the senate floor for weeks before the vote.

For the last few weeks, I had been meaning to look for the threads in the archives. So, tonight I did.

One of your sweet Scott's post:

After I began reading DU regularly I soon noticed that posts by Khephra were important and worth reading. Others have since picked up where he left off, but he helped make this forum useful, and helped turn it into something that matters. Few can claim any sort of legacy, but Khephra certainly can.

Your post made my night! :)

Life sounds wonderful for you and that is welcome news.

DU will never be the same without Scott. I rarely venture into LBN anymore. Without Kheph it's just not the same place. He had an urgency and a strong desire to keep us up to date on anything and everything. No one can fill his shoes, even though there are many diligent and wonderful posters here.

After eight years of no relationships and not even dating the past two, I also am in love. Love is in the air :P

And guess what? Over the last two days pennies have been appearing everywhere around me, and in the oddest places. When I read what you wrote about pennies I had to laugh.

106. Scott was one of the first to welcome me to DU.
There hasn't been too many changes in my life. Mr. kt and I are moving up in our careers. Our little Pitter-pat is still playful as ever. We're at a very good place in our lives right now.

I'm happy to see that you are finding happiness.

108. Back in the old days...
Keph was one of the few people that was awake all night the same as I was. We DOMINATED the late night board, we were KINGS!

I miss him deeply. I hope he's in a far better place than Bush-world, but then that would be just about any place, wouldn't it? ;)

Same old crap here. Nothing's changed. Still awake most of the night with chronic pain although a Craftmatic Adjustable Bed I picked up (not literally) at an auction for $10 has helped some. Oh well, no use complaining, life is was it is.

109. Thank you so very much for this...
As you know, hardly any time at all passes before Khephra is mentioned on a DU post. He was such an institution here. I love the story of the pennies and thrilled to hear you have found a loving partner!

Much happiness to you. Khephra (Scott) undoubtedly IS watching down on you. :loveya:

111. Congrats on the marriage!
It was nice to hear from you here. I'm glad you are doing well and are as happy as you sound. :)

The impact your son made on this place is never fading. He is mentioned all the time and his passion still rings through DU in everyone who knew him here.

113. LBN just hasn't been the same
others have tried (Doondoo, recently), but no one covers the Internets quite like Kef did, and I dare say that none ever will. :(
