About the Iraq War, hence the "Freedom Fries" reference.

Walter Jones? I'm in disbelief. Maybe Jones went behind the closed door one day as a deranged right-wing Conservative and came from behind the door normal.

13. nothing. Which is pretty much what is happening with this referral
There are no plans for a hearing specfically on any of DK's resolutions or for any committee votes on them. There are plans for a hearing (or hearings) to review the failings and misdeeds of the administration, including, but not limited to the matters raised by DK. DK will get an opportunity to testify. And the hearings probably will be covered in part on cable, just as cable covered, in part, the hearings on the US Attorneys firings and some other hearings.

But treating this development as a major turn of events is premature at best and most likely wishful thinking.

16. I remain hopeful
For one thing, I live in red state hell where conservative Democrats are considered "liberal". And I lost count of how many are coming up to me at Democratic party events asking about impeachment. They are starting to see the light. So yes, I remain very hopeful.

11. I'm shocked to see Brady on this list. He's gotta be worried about reelection.
Brady has district that encompasses some parts of Houston on the far northeast side. It's a fairly conservative, fairly GOP district, but it is experiencing some drift.

very out of character. although, i know of several people out there that make it a point to be a pain in his a*%. one got himself elected as an alderman, and has cause quite a stir. i would love to think that these folks had something to do with these votes. but knowing how pukes think, it is probably some personal grudge.

29. not necessarily -- its simply a "safe" vote
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 02:44 PM by onenote
Congress had three choices of how to deal with DK's resolution: give it an up/down vote, vote to table (kill) it, or vote to refer it to Judiciary where, in all likelihood, it dies. The first motion to come up was to refer. It was a safe vote. If -- and everyone knew it wouldn't get to this -- an up/down vote had been held, I'd be willing to bet the ranch that Mazullo (and every other repub and quite a few blue dog dems) would've voted against the resolution.

19. I wouldn't read too much into it.
As posted upthread, 24 repubs voted for the referral motion on DK's previous set of impeachment articles. It certainly doesn't mean that they -- or a majority in the house -- favor starting an impeachment inquiry. It simply was the "safe" vote (because if the resolution wasn't referred it either would've been put to an up/down vote or a vote to table.

31. Huh? Which Democrats voted against the referral?
And which repubs voting for referral have publicly endorsed actually conducting an impeachment proceeding?

I guarantee that most if not all of the repubs that voted for the referral are opposed to impeachment. Voting for the referral is simply a safe vote. If it wasn't referred, it would've been subject to an up/down vote or a motion to table (kill) DK's resolution. Voting for referral is in no way an indicator of how a member of congress feels about impeachment.

35. yawn.
Nothing brave about it. Heck, in June, 24 repubs voted to refer DK's resolution to Judiciary.
Voting to refer is simply the simplest, safest way they can kill DK's resolution. Hate to rain on the parade, but those are simply the facts.

39. I wish it wasn't necessary. But some people here keep repeating misinformation
If getting nine repubs to vote for this is a good thing, then getting 24 to vote for it in June must have been a great thing and we're moving backwards.

Or maybe getting 24, 9 or any other number of repubs to vote to refer DK's resolution doesn't mean crap and people ought to know that.
