When the time comes Obama should make the White House available ...

This seems to me to be the ultimate sign of reconciliation and besides that just the plain and simple right thing to do, but if during the time that Obama is in office - and let's not kid ourselves, he will be the next President of the United States - Chelsea Clinton is to be married then Obama should make the White House available for the wedding just as if Bill Clinton was still in office, a courtesy from one President to another President and much more than that too.

What do you think? By the way, I'm going to post exactly this same question on another web site or two so you may see it elsewhere.

It would be a nice gesture, but is there an established tradition or protocol?

I think the Bush daughter was wise to keep her own wedding somewhat low key and to hold it away from the White House. Big weddings are okay if one can afford them, but why host a circus?

and having her wedding at the white house would not be a private function it would turn into a political function. So I highly doubt the request will ever be made or accepted.
