Since when did all Repugs become psychologists?
"I readily concede it won't produce a barrel of oil tomorrow, but it will reverse the psychology,"- Bush on lifting the ban on offshore drilling.

He actually said that at his press conference. These silly fucks do think a bad economy is all in our heads.

1. It's a Rovian plot - and it looks like it will be a damn good one too
McCain and Bush keep harping on about how the _fundamentals_ of the economy are so juicy good, and it's a _psychological_ problem in that *some* people are whiners and do not get that the _fundamentals_ are good, so these losers act like chickens with their heads cut off.

Cue the opposition (and among them most Democratics and the Obama campaign)... "You're crazy if you think that the economy is good, drilling for oil in ANWAR will change the price of oil and Iraq is going well..."

McCain/Bush response? "SEE!!! These people have PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS! And they're so dumb/ stupid/ crazy/ un-American that they'll NEVER see that the _fundamentals_ are good, even if they got slapped in the face with them! They WANT AMERICA TO LOSE!"

I expect this argument has been tested against specific samples of hoi polloi and it will poll in favor of McCain come election time. After all, who would vote for a CRAZY person who's SO DOWN ON AMERICA?

6. he's saying...it won't help but you'll feel better about it
and if you feel better, you'll think he did something to help you...so then you'll believe things aren't that bad and will get better...and Bush is the reason for all the warm fuzzies.

and well, for a lot of people...he's right. The feel good measure that doesn't actually help does satisfy far too many people.

It's manipulation through perception engineering/manufacturing...and it can be quite effective.

What's interesting about his comment is he said exactly what he was doing...looking to change perceptions by using such feel good techniques

It's not common to explain how you're manipulating while you're manipulating

8. I've been hearing that shit for weeks.
One of my RW friends dropped that shit on me about a month ago. He told me that "Opening up ANWR and the coasts to drilling will scare the Arabs into thinking we are actually going to do something for once."

I said "Yeah, I'm sure they can't get the news over there that it would take a decade to get anything and once we do it would only last a couple years. I mean, they don't know anything about oil exploration over there."

Those RW clowns will believe and parrot anything the oil companies and Limpballs tells them to.
