Ga. governor says guns should be allowed in nation's busiest airport under new law

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue said Monday that guns should be allowed in public areas of the nation's busiest airport.

And he suggested his own wife might want to pack a firearm for long walks between the parking lot and the terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International.

"If my wife wanted to carry a gun, if she was going from the parking lot, walking from one of those far parking lots to pick up a grandchild or something like that, I think that's a good idea, yes," he said Monday.

Earlier this year, Perdue, a Republican, signed legislation that allows Georgians who have passed criminal background checks to carry concealed weapons onto mass transit, as well as into state parks and restaurants that serve alcohol. The new law took effect July 1.

7. Only the secure zone is under FAA control
the rest is just like any other building/shopping area.

3. It should be mandated
that everyone entering an airport should be armed with an assault rifle for safety's sake. And, if true to the second amendment that as citizens we must comprise a militia to protect our country then each citizen should be in possession of nuclear weapons. Are we gonna fight Russia with hunting rifles??

5. Sadly, it'd be news if this hillbilly DIDN'T say they should be allowed.
My state is ruled by rubes and imbeciles.

6. He isn't talking about the secure area
He is talking about the public non-secure area with no security, he is jut saying that there shouldn't be any special rules for the part of the airport that is not under tight security.

11. bass-ackwards
Living here in Atlanta, it's no wonder the government can't "get things done" (i.e., develop and implement a comprehensive transportation system, effective water use policy, etc.)... they're too busy keeping them thar gays from marrying, lettin' good God-fearin' folks carry their guns whereever the hell they want to (like the world's busiest airport), and oh yes, keeping the sinners from purchasing beer/wine on Sundays - you know, the "important" things that really matter.

(All said tongue in cheek and with a heavy dose of sarcasm).

I can't wait for that MOFO Perdue's term to be over.

Also, as a neat side-bar, the last time I drove down West Paces past the Gov.'s mansion, the house directly across the street from the entrance had several large Obama signs in their front yard - big enough for good ole Sonny to see every time he enters and leaves the house - thought that's pretty cool!
