Notes From the Telephone. (Wexler)
Edited on Tue Jul-15-08 06:51 AM by mmonk
I participated in a conference call with Rep. Wexler concerning impeachment a few weeks ago. I thought I would post a couple of high points.

1. He asked that we all put pressure on friends (people likely to support impeachment). Then maybe they would add articles themselves or at least create more public support or make public statements.

2. In regard to editorial attacks on him for supporting impeachment, he wrote an editorial explaining why impeachment was important, but all major newspapers in the U.S. refused to run it.

3. He said there is no time frame for impeachment. You can issue impeachment on the first day of office or the last day, it doesn't matter.

4. He said a 4-6 week period for all hearings would be both judicious and appropriate (wouldn't take long) and

5. finally, the constitution REQUIRES Congress to act.

Sorry it took me so long to post this. But continue to apply pressure, but do so with friendly members of Congress as they can be the catalyst. Thanks

Additional note: He was going to push for inherent contempt concerning subpoenas.

7. if "the constitution REQUIRES Congress to act", then
why does Pelosi keep saying impeachment is off the table.

Seems to me to be at odds with the constitution. And hasn't she taken an oath to defend it?

9. There Should Be A Push For Hearings And More During The Lame Duck Session
This is when the GOOPers tried to get at Clinton...some of those who voted to impeach had already lost their races, there was one repugnican congresscritter who was even wearing a bracelet wired to the local police...DeLay set up his "secret room" and ramroded the hearings and vote. No reason this time can't be used again. Who knows, maybe there's be some Repugnican "buyers remorse" following the election...especially for those who are gonna try to rebuild the shattered wreckage of their corrupt party.
