Rachel Maddow on the Today Show
As many of you probably already know Rachel Maddow was on the Today Show this morning. I am not trying to bash Maddow, but I think she missed at least two opportunities to go after McCain and the Republicans. I think she may have been trying to be nice so she let McCain and the Republicans off the hook a bit. First, it was the talk about the economy. Maddow came close to the issue by pointing that Americans are taking more notice of the advisors who are talking to the candidates; however, she left it there without going further. I contend she could have gone further by pointing out that McCain is being advised by Phil Gramm, one of the men who may have helped bring this economic crisis about. In addition, she could have tried to connect McCain to Alan Greenspan, who is now also being blamed for the failure of some banks because he refused to put new regulations in place when he was the Fed chairman. Maddow also could have attacked the Republican's displeasure with business regulations. Second, it was the discussion of Afghanistan. Maddow allowed the Republican strategist to get away with putting out his own misinformation. The Republican strategist tried to say that Obama wanting to put more troops in Afghanistan was moving to the center. Maddow tried to counter that by saying Obama has been saying the same thing since the beginning. After that the Republican strategist claimed that if McCain had come out asking for more troop in Afghanistan the Democrats/liberals would have attacked him. At that point I do not think Maddow did a good job of debating the Republican strategist. I contend Maddow should have pointed out that Democrats/liberal have been asking for more troops to be sent to Afghanistan for at least a year and Democrats have been talking about how Afghanistan was becoming more unstable, but the Republicans ignored what was going on in Afghanistan until recently.

1. One of two possibilties
a) NBC News told Rachel her limits if she wanted to come back to the Today Show.

b) Rachel purposely and independently circumscribed her responses in order to return to the Today Show.

2. One time on the Today Show does not make a career
Rachel no doubt "dailed it back" for that morning show. She
has established her bona fides on political matters.

5. Rachel's human and prone to error like all of us
but she's a fast learner and a great progressive voice on the corporate media networks.
