AP's Ron Fournier responds: 'I regret the breezy nature' of email to Rove
Buried in the middle of the daily roundup on Tillman and Lynch:
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5har2x3C1pHAtchMse1gTn6lSOyNQD91TUO100

... The committee cited one exchange between White House political chief Karl Rove and Ron Fournier, then a political reporter for The Associated Press.

In a chain under the subject line "H-E-R-O," Rove replied to an e-mail from Fournier by saying, "How does our country continue to produce men and women like this?"

Fournier replied, "The Lord creates men and women like this all over the world. But only the great and free countries allow them to flourish. Keep up the fight."

Fournier, now the AP's acting Washington bureau chief, said Monday: "I was an AP political reporter at the time of the 2004 e-mail exchange, and was interacting with a source, a top aide to the president, in the course of following an important and compelling story. I regret the breezy nature of the correspondence."

It sounds like this AP Washington Bureau Chief (not a real important position, right? /sarcasm) is a religious extremist. Great.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=4014915

This "revelation" should not be news to anyone. AP is not to be trusted to provide the truth.

"...affirmative acts created new facts that were significantly different than what the soldiers in the field knew to be true. And in both cases, the fictional accounts proved to be compelling public narratives at difficult times in the war."

I don't think you can start blaming the crimes of the Bush Administration on the legal profession.

22. And what do you do for a living?
I thought only right wingers blamed all our problems on lawyers. While I don't take this kind of bashing personally it is a bit simplistic and unenlightened to somehow assert that having a legal system is a bad thing.

that it was Addington, Yoo and other 'lawyers' that provided the dubious legal fig leaf that the Administration used as a pretense of legality for their criminal behavior.
Although I am pleased that you did not take this perceived affront personally, my point has some real-world history to back it.

As for my profession. Thanks to Bush gang, I no longer have one..

26. Riiiight
Without Addington and Yoo, Bush and Cheney would never have gone to war and would never have employed torture or divvied up the loot to their cronies. Poor Cheney, he knew it was wrong, but those slick lawyers were SO convincing! What chance does an honest politician stand? Do you REALLY believe that, my unemployed friend? You bitterness is misplaced. That is not to say lawyers in the Bush administration don't have to answer for their role. They do. But please, blaming George Bush's crimes on "the lawyers" makes a convenient scapegoat and little else.

I'm not bitter. You would think we were back in the primaries...

You needn't waste your time defending your profession with me. You will find little sympathy in my ear.

The Congress is full of lawyers and look how far that has gotten us.
