Official: 9 US troops killed in Afghanistan deadliest attack in Afghanistan since June 2005
Three weeks ago the US. leaders on the ground asked for 7500 more US. troops but they were denied.

KABUL, Afghanistan - A multi-pronged militant assault on a small, remote U.S. base killed nine American soldiers and wounded 15 Sunday in the deadliest attack on U.S. forces in Afghanistan in three years, officials said.
The militant assault on the American troops began around 4:30 a.m. in a dangerous region close to the Pakistan border and lasted throughout the day.

Troops were on their way to rescue a four-man team of Navy SEALs caught in a militant ambush. Three SEALs were killed, the fourth was rescued days later by a farmer.

Sunday's attack came during a period of rising violence in Afghanistan. Monthly death tolls of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan surpassed U.S. military deaths in Iraq in May and June.
-> Obama, out of Iraq and back to Afganistan?

1. Bush is an IDIOT. He took his eye off the ball and now he has
to withdraw troops from Iraq and start cleaning up the mess he left festering in Afghanistan.

Iraq is a luxury we can't afford. We have to take care of more pressing matters now.

4. Where's Commander AWOL today?
Kicking back on vacation at Camp David?

Or hanging with VP Dickie 'Five Military Deferments' Cheney and the other republicon chickenhawks?

We know Rush 'Draft Dodger' Limbaugh (R) is busy counting up his $400 million in blood money.

6. Kipling said it..
"When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier."

8. Goddamnit.....
...what a fucking clusterfuck. Not to disparage the SEALs who are excellent, but a couple of friends of mine and I have come to the conclusion that they should refocus on maritime operations and get the hell out of the hills. This everyone-needs-a-slice-of-the-combat-tour-pie mentality is stupid at best.
