Sign ideas for DC protest Saturday?
I'm taking the bus from Chicago to attend the march in DC this weekend and having a hard time deciding what to put on my protest sign. You know, so many slogans, so few signs!

So I'm soliciting your ideas, DUers, especially from those of you who won't be able to make it and want to be represented. I'll probaby make several and share them with my fellow riders/protesters.

Some of the things I'm considering:

INVESTIGATE
IMPEACH
IMPRISON

MAKE ALTERNATIVE FUELS, NOT WAR

IMPEACHMENT, IT'S NOT FOR BLOW JOBS ANYMORE

GET OUT OF IRAQ
STAY OUT OF IRAN
FIX AMERICA--IT'S BROKEN

I know there are thousands of good bumper sticker slogans that have been featured in posts here. After I get your suggestions I'll probably post a poll. (This is what democracy looks like?!)

I welcome your suggestions and hope this post doesn't sink like a stone!

And as much as I like it, Helderheid, I think "Ooga, Booga, Smooga Wooga" is just too much of an inside joke!

Thanks for your help.

1. I would make one small change
IMPEACHMENT, IT'S NOT JUST FOR BLOW JOBS ANYMORE

and that would be my number one choice!

And I'm a proofreader, jeez! When I went to the March 18 protest last year here in Chicago, my spelling-impaired friend made our signs, and I was sooo grateful to find a sharpie in my purse so I could correct her spelling (especially since I actually got interviewed for the local TV news!).

(edited to add the image of the bumper sticker I made that was subsequently stolen off the back of my car!)

2. the main idea of this demonstration is to get our troops out of Iraq
Edited on Thu Jan-25-07 10:05 AM by alyce douglas
I know there are many issues to tackle out there, but the number one reason for this demonstration should be:

GET OUR TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ OR WE WILL BE A FAILURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11. I'm with you, this is about the war
Not our hatred of Bush. (We can have a march about that when the war is over).

We've done some area protests and the best ones we've had are "PEACE IS PATRIOTIC" and "BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW". I also like "SUPPORT THE TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME"

Also this weekend if you see a large converted schoolbus with the words Prince William Peacemakers wave, I'll wave back. :)

17. Impeachment may be inextricably tied
to ending the war. If you saw or read about Cheney's interview with Wolfenstein Blitzkrieg yesterday, it's pretty clear that they have every intention of doing whatever they fucking please as long as they're in power.

9. Whoa, that's intense!
When I went a year ago for the World Can't Wait protest (which was very poorly attended and I was surrounded by Communists on my bus) one of my favorite things was a little effigy of * with his pants on fire. I know I have a pic of that somewhere . . .

Is it "kosher" for a little Jewish girl to carry a cross?

IT has been done several times but it is always worth another revisit.

One of the ones that came out in the threads of the past that cracked my up and to this day I hear THAT now instead of the actual lyrics was

Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" which was misheard by several DU'ers (and others out there on the web) as:

Tony Danza
Dancer for money
do what you want me to do

Mine

From "Sugar Magnolia" -The Dead

"pays my tickets when I speed" became "Feeds my chickens when I sleep"

as well as that Chumbawumba song :eyes:

33. LOL!
When I was just a little girl, I had a Dick Clark album of 1957's biggest hits. One of them was a song that I just discovered was called "Beep, Beep" (I always thought it was called "Little Nash Rambler"). Anyway, it's about a guy driving a Nash Rambler, trying to keep up with a Cadillac so he could ask the driver a question. I always thought the question was, "Hey buddy, how do you get this car out of Sagoneer" (which I thought was a town in Michigan or something). Of course, the punchline really was "Hey buddy, how do you get this car out of second gear"! Didn't figure it out until probably 30 years later (because the damn thing was still rattling around in my head!)

my health really cannot put up with these bus trips. i do not travel well. i have done a few of them, but they take a toll. especially when it is cold.
are you going/taking a bus? i should try and hit the bus line-up. i have some signs made from my button designs.

but ohio, both as in 4 dead in, and as in the theft of '04. it could be- we know what you did in ohio. i was at a cindy sheehan appearance out in batavia this spring. there were some college rethuglicans there trying to shout her and other gold star families down. i was yelling back- ohio, ohio, we know what you did in ohio. i got a few glances that were clearly full of fear.

42. I'm taking the bus . . .
I did it last year and it wasn't too taxing for me (though the company was somewhat weird).

I plan on getting on in Elmhurst as it will be easier to get there and park. I'm in Mundelein (pretty far north) and my experience driving into the city on a Friday afternoon is usually pretty much of a slo-mo nightmare!

It would be great to meet you if you show up for the send-off there. Will you be covered in buttons like a political English cockney? I'm going to check out your website again (looked once a long time ago--you're good!).

to see if i can get a little support, or at least permission to do it downtown.
maybe if that looks f'ed up, i could do the elmhurst pickup point. cops tend to chase peddlers downtown, and my peddlers license got hosed up.
yeah, mundelein is a long way. hope you can get in for a meetup sometime.

52. I know they're planning send-off rallies
at both departure points, so you may be able to blend in to the crowd. It certainly would be a good audience! There's a guy who always comes to these events with his buttons, which I'm sure he prints on an inkjet because they run in the rain. I still have the rain-streaked IMPEACH BUSH button on my jacket from last year's march. I'm hoping for better weather this time--I swear I've never been so wet in my life, not even in the shower!

bring pitchforks and torches or copius amounts of tar and feathers. If you must go the sign route try this: get a broom stick and somehow hand a pair of novelty handcuffs off it so it jingles when you walk.

I'm a graphic artist by trade, so I'm pretty good at blowing stuff up (hmmmm . . . that's the kind of talk that can get you arrested;-) ).

I actually took a tiny web image of Bush and Hastert in those ridiculous lab coats and goggles (a classic) and blew it up to poster size for my Halloween display. It worked, amazingly enough!

I remember the low tech way of blowing up images. Draw a grid on the original 8X10 of, let's say 1/2 inch squares. Then on a 16X20 draw a grid of 1 inch squares. Then draw the image using the grids as a guide. Let's hear it from high school art class!!!!
