John Dean: Congress is "a bunch of wusses"

When John Dean, author and former White House Counsel to President Richard Nixon, appeared Wednesday on Rob Kall's radio show (mp3), he seemed willing to go further in his condemnations of current government than he has when appearing on Olberman or any of the mainstream shows on which he is a regular guest.

In fact, Rob's very first question about Dean's take on Congress immunizing telecoms with the passage of FISA amendments drew a refreshingly, honestly coarse answer from Dean, who bluntly said, "Well, it looks like we have a bunch of wusses up there on Capitol Hill, not much interested in civil liberties and very interested in C.Y.A."

.................

Mr. Dean said he also questions whether Congress' immunization of telecoms for past crimes is even Constitutionally permissable. He says, "It's possible that a court could rule that Congress doesn't have the power, in the middle of a case that's being litigated to take away jurisdiction from the federal courts." Which makes a lot of sense. I can envision a judge having some objection to Congress changing the rules in the middle of the game and telling him that the judicial branch has no say in a case that he is currently hearing. That just might piss a federal judge plum off.

..................

Rob then asked a question that I had suggested for Mr. Dean: What about the illegal wiretapping that occured before 9/11? Dean said he didn't know whether there was evidence of that. "Who knows if we'll ever know what they were doing?" Dean asked rhetorically.

But there is evidence. And lots of it.

1. They're not a bunch of wusses. They know damn well what they were doing. They did it for power alone
In order to change things, you need power. They want that power.

They are trying to inoculate themselves against charges that they are weak on national security by approving what the Repubs want so that they have a better shot at consolidating power without the Repubs sinking them with that weapon.

Power can do awful things to a person, can twist them into something you don't like. If a person gets too high up, pretty soon the people below do start looking like ants to step on.

3. Dems have been party to monstrous ruin on this nation since WWII for being afraid of being
charged as weak on national defense, communism, crime, drugs, et al and we are now reaping what has been sown: a 'puke dominated agenda featuring fiscal irresponsibility, tax unfairness, rotting infrastructure, environmental destruction, ludicrous drug laws, jails overflowing with non-violent inmates, a disgraceful third-world like health delivery system, a devastated economy, gross unpunished corporate and Wall Street malfeasance, tax havens, falling standard of living, substantial loss in the value of the dollar, must I go on, and a lot of this falls and the feet of Dems who shit their pants at the thought of being dubbed weak on the above and cave to the 'pukes, giving us the joys of the 'puke society we now have, a belligerent, nationalistic society with perpetual pre-emptive war in the offing. :D

2. *LOL* I imagine they feel more threatened than ever by this regime,...
,...prepared to wage vengeance in any way available.

Still,...they are obviously short on courage and long on survival (for themselves).

Yup! They are far too wimpy to be the kind of 'representatives' our Founders hoped for.

Oh, well. At least they seem sufficiently addicted to stay in the 'lime light' unlike many of us who really don't even want to throw our hats into the arena of nasty politics.
