Poll question: Who should be the Senate Majority Leader in January 2009?
We all know Spineless Harry Reid has to go. Who should take his place, and bring some actual leadership to the Senate?

2. Feingold or Dodd.
Somebody who's actually read and understands the Constitution would be nice.

4. I am going to say the first nice thing I've said about Hillary Clinton since February:

I think she would do an excellent job as Majority Leader. She's cunning, she's calculating, she's tough--she'd be perfect. She would help Obama get his agenda through the Senate. There, I said it.

7. Reid is not popular in Nevada
I think it has been stated somewhere that keeping him in the leadership position is part of a Democratic strategy to prevent that Senate seat from going Republican.

11. Probably the same way Holy Joe won in Connecticut
The 'Pukes voted for him because he was advancing their agenda anyway.

...couldn't be worse than Reid.

Okay I chose Barbara Boxer, because at least she would fight for a real open democratic election process, the most important thing in a Democracy.

13. Boxer or Feingold, my two favs
Feingold's speech during the Iraq War Resolution debate on the Senate floor displayed the type of leadership we need.

19. For one the man who already successfully did it in the past, John Kerry
Also, being Majority leader would likely mean you would not have the time to lead that effort. Webb was never a prosecutor nor has he led any investigation in the Senate.

He is a very junior Senator in a body where seniority is important. He also is far to the right of nearly the whole caucus. I absolutely don't get people on DU who are enamored with him - especially when they are the first to bash Democrats with far better records.

16. Kent Conrad
I love the guy. Allthough I'd hate to see him become a DLC tool like Reid or Daschele. Is it a rule you have to become a spinless tool to be the Senate leader?

21. Wow. That's a tough one.
My fantasy majority leader has the charm of JFK, the sheer political muscle of of LBJ, the principles of a Paul Sarbanes or a Russ Feingold, and the regular-guy scrappiness and sweetness of a Paul Wellstone, with a large dollop of eloquence.

I guess I'll go with Feingold on principles and speaking ability, but I don't know how well he does with building alliances and kicking rear ends.

Jim Webb is an interesting guy, but again, I don't know his true powers (That makes him sound like a superhero, doesn't it?).
