1. I have put away all of my political books and drug the novels out again
Too much knowledge is not necessarily a good thing especially when you can't do a damn thing about anything.;)

I am presently reading "Black Friday" by James Patterson.
Interesting read.

Google the synopsis.

I am not advocating anything of course...but again, it is an interesting read.

13. I'll join you.
I have that book in my collection and it could stand a re-read. I'll drag it out after I get done with the Stephen King novel I'm currently reading.

2. The Dow is down just abut 20% since October
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 08:50 AM by Gman
Just this morning my wife said she was glad we're not in the market right now. We won't be in the office until at least mid-next year, assuming Obama wins and trends start changing. If Obama doesn't win, the money's going into coffee cans buried in the backyard (savings) and stuffed in the mattress (working capital).

3. If you are confident; go short.
You can make just as much money in a down market than an up market.

I've been short the market (which is actually the S&P500, not the DOW) since October. It at least has made it so I haven't lost money on the rest of my investments during this atrocious market.

4. With the gov't and the Fed inflating our money away . . .
. . . you aren't preserving anything by hoarding cash.

6. Yeah I don't know why people think hoarding cash is a good idea
Stocks seem to be the only thing on the planet that people hate to buy at a discount.

9. True... we've also talked about putting everything into a mix of
foreign currency, weighted toward Euros.

5. This is Actually A Great Time To Buy Stocks
If you're willing to wait five years or more for a nice return. My guess is that Obama wins the presidency, and with a Dem congress, the economy will be in full recovery by 2011. The markets will be soaring.

7. And everybody with a large portion of their assets in stocks should have a long term outlook anyway
Many people who try to time the market lose over and over again by buying high and selling low.

11. Correct and The Stock Market Always Preceeds Turnarounds
It will re-claim the lost 20% and more by 2011.

That is, if Obama wins. If McCain wins, well...
