Merkel is old enough to remember when women were treated like property and men were called Chauvinist pigs for exactly what Bush does to her. Since when is it OK for any country's leader to fondle a woman in public, especially when she's also the leader of a country? Why she hasn't taken him aside and at least explained that these feely touchy gestures of his make her look like she's his personal toy and insult her position and her standing in the world is beyond me. It's a condescending entitled gesture presuming some kind of right to pet her in public as if she were a cute puppy. It makes her look undignified and weak and shows disrespect for her position as the head of her country.

He's stupid and just believes he's so charming that he has the right to break social rules of respectful behavior, but surely she's not stupid. Even if she's one of his adoring women (Meiers, Hughes, Rice) she should at least tell him not to touch her in public. I'm not blaming the 'victim' either. As a woman I believe that it's up to me to demand respect, not up to the clueless males who disrespect me.
