Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 02:48 PM by lebkuchen
I won't say who, but this should be a great game.

A Germany star player has blood coming down from the side of his face. We're about 40 min. into it. Casillas looks really cute.

1. Soccer is like no other game - maybe hockey...
It's the only game I know where a 1 goal lead could be all you need for victory.
I don't see this one ending that way though.

10. Pause
Ballack has a cut over his eye...it was bleeding pretty well, but they kept him in.

I am cheering for Spain. I hope they kick Germany's ass, and that's because I've had to go head to head with so many Germans lately for every last friggin' euro cent. Denmark has a higher tax rate, but they're not this cheap. Americans are out and out generous by comparison despite a higher debt.

45 minutes to go. Spain need two early goals because Germany will not sit back and die. At this rate Ballack will get a red card.

Spain is running the Germans hard, but Spain also had that opportunity before the break. I couldn't see what the holdup was on the kick.

It sure is quiet in my neighborhood~!

35. That was the best played game of any team in the tournament
the control was so tight, the defense was unbelieveable, the offense constantly getting the ball back. No big mistakes, a few missed opportunities....I would have liked to see Senna get his goal, but hey, 1-0, Germany can stand proud.

30. ¡Paña Paña Paña!
I live in Germany now, but lived in Spain for a while when I was in High School.

I was in a win-win situation, here. In Andalucia, the local accent is, in some
areas, sort of like parts of Latin America, where they swallow parts of their
words, and when they were cheering their country on, instead of "España" they
would cheer "Paña Paña Paña!"

Of course, not as loudly as had the Germans won, but I'm glad there are some Spanish supporters in my midst.

It's a huge disappointment for the German team, but they made second, and that says a lot.

Merkel barely gave Casillas a nod in the reception line. :)

On to South Africa!

from the German-American Volksfest today

At the coffee hut - a friend of mine owns it. He travels all over Germany (festivals, etc.) - offering the BEST donuts and some mighty good coffee (and if you're his bud....... some damn good beer).

Inside the bier tent but well before the game....big screen TVs were set up for viewing. By game time, the place was packed.

45. i was surprised at how lackluster the German defense was
Spain EASILY could have converted 3+ other major chances, and a few more difficult ones...

And what's the deal with Germany hardly even getting the ball out of their own end for the last 10 minutes? There didn't seem to be the 'send everyone forward' urgency that Turkey used for their late-game heroics...

46. You noticed
The minute the ball went into Spain's half, the Spanish players would steal it away and take it back. I think Casillas was more bored this game than he was against Russia. Germany didn't take that many kicks against him. The German players were understandably so disappointed...looked so dejected, as shown on German TV.

Ah, well, they'll be back 2010.

Ball control and forcing turnovers. They also RAN. FAST. (I think they're doped). Ballack was steroided out, feeling no pain (except that of losing). It's VERY QUIET in the 'hood. At least the winners were wearing OUR COLOURS!!! ;-)

Germany coach Joachim Low admitted Spain had deserved to beat his side in the Euro 2008 final in Vienna.
<snip>
He said after the 1-0 defeat: "Spain played better, we couldn't match their level. We did not play at our best.

"We will analyse over the next couple of days what went wrong and work on that for the near future.

"Spain played very well during whole tournament and they were technically excellent. We had no answer after Spain found their rhythm."
