Dear Friends:

Great news! Because of our hard work, my campaign has been recognized by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as one of the top targets in the country and added to its Red to Blue list. This is a huge step forward for the race, and I cannot thank you enough.


John Shadegg already knew he was on notice. Earlier this month, he cashed in a favor with John McCain and got the Presidential nominee to sponsor a fundraiser for him. Even after 14 years in Washington rubbing shoulders with the biggest money special interests, he still needed the help. When we filed our petition signatures to be on the November ballot, Shadegg even considered challenging them to try to weasel his way out of a serious race. And when the campaign finance reports are filed in a couple of weeks I fully expect his to read like a “Lobbyist of the Week” club, with tens of thousands of dollars from Washington special interests and their hired hands.

I could not be happier with how my own campaign is progressing, but now that we are a nationally targeted race, John Shadegg is going to redouble his efforts toward beating me. I don’t mean by spending more time with his constituents or working twice as hard for the state of Arizona; we know he’s not very interested in that. He’s going to try to bury me with all the worst attacks money can buy, and I need your help to fight back.

Our most critical fundraising deadline is Monday, June 30. If we can raise $5,000, that will be the equivalent of just one of John Shadegg’s PAC checks from Big Oil, Big Pharma, or one of the dozen other corporate interests he counts on. Whether you can afford $250, $100, or just $10, you are making a huge difference. We can’t let Shadegg and his cronies run too far ahead of us, and I know I can count on you to keep me competitive.
