County Board Republican files to run for chairman as independent

EDWARDSVILLE --Hal Patton of Edwardsville will challenge Alan Dunstan as an independent for the County Board chairmanship in Madison County.

After the April filing deadline passed, none of the seven Democrats holding countywide offices had any opposition for the November election. Patton said that was part of his motivation for opposing Dunstan as an independent, even though he was twice elected to the County Board as a Republican.

"People want to see less partisan politics and less one-party dominance," Patton said. "It was frustrating to me that no Republican candidate stepped up."
