I don't think the fightthesmears.com website is being run very well. I've been watching it and it looks pretty much like it did on opening day. They need to add new material on a regular basis or I'm afraid the site is going to be forgotten and die out.

Meanwhile, I'm watching Dan Abrams right now and he has all sorts of commentary about recent smears against Barack Obama, and I'm sure all the other news stations do too.

I don't know who's running the fightthesmears.com site, but someone needs to wake him up!

3. I wrote, too.
I've also noticed that nothing seems to be changing at the site. And, although I'm signed up for action alerts, I've received nothing. Maybe Obama needs to put some of our excellent DU researcher/activists on the case.

2. I've seen this also
One of the lies going around is that 'Obama will raise my taxes' when independent research shows the working and middle class will get 3-30x more tax cuts under Obama than McCain, esp people making less than 38k. I emailed them with that fact (which they should already be aware of) and have not seen anything change. People who make 25k a year are still whining that 'Obama will raise my taxes' when they will see 8x more tax cuts under Obama than McCain.

5. The smears on the first page are the worst ones.

6. Media Matters is a better place to check media smears
Media Matters online does a better job tracking the smears and they really are non-partisan. They will also report false claims against McCain.

7. They should invent some new and even more outrageous smears to fight?
Perhaps on a daily basis?

8. "They should invent some new and even more outrageous smears to fight?"
No, there are plenty of real smears against Barack Obama out there, plus a lot of related material. They could come up with tons of legitimate and important new content if they only made the effort. Why in the world would they have to invent anything, or even want to? Why are you saying that?

9. Because your OP seems to think the site is something like C&L or Huff Post,
looking for traffic and high hit counts. But the site isn't even nearly like that. The site isn't meant to respond to every nit, and to do their job the site ops don't have to search the news and web looking to inflame every small transgression into something of viral importance. In fact it's clear that the intent of the site is to hit back, with clear and concise responses, to right-wing smear THEMES. So MSM reporters, journalists and pundits can be held to account when they repeat variations on the themes - and their feet can be held to the fire.

Once again, the intent of the site isn't to INFLAME small transgressions by searching them out and publicizing them, but to act as a PROPHYLACTIC against variations on broad themes already mapped out by 527s, and by major right-wing hit pieces. E.g. an Obama bashing book is expected out this summer, published by the publishers of the swift-boat crowd. Journalists, reviewers, pundits etc., will of course report on this massive smear piece, but fightthesmears.com will have already answered most of the smears, and any new theme will be quickly snuffed -- and those reporters, pundits etc. can then be held to account with respect to "balance", since fightthesmears.com is clear, concise, and official.

10. Here's an example:
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=Obama+%22Induced+Infant+Liability+Act%22&btnG=Google+Search

I ran across this today, and I think fightthesmears.com really needs to address it. It couldn't possibly be as bad as the websites are spinning it, yet I can't seem to find anything positive about it on the web. I'm afraid the silence from fightthesmears.com might only make it look worse.
