I just finished reading "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman (SPOILERS!)

The story was about the "new" gods of America -- Media, Technology, Paranoia, a few others -- going to war against the "old" gods, mainly deities brought over in the hearts and beliefs of this country's many immigrants. Basically, America's manifestation of Odin was gathering the old gods to fight a war of survival with the new ones.

Towards the end, the reader finds out that the whole plot is a two person grift, with Odin, who feeds on battle, and Loki, who feeds on chaos, setting up this war as a way to obtain great power for themselves.

Now I look at Bush and Cheney and have to wonder....
