It's time for another blessed image story!

When Randy O'Kane went canoeing with his son on the Jacks Fork River in southern Missouri, they skipped stones across the water. A tile-setter, O'Kane kept one of the stones. When he cut it in half to polish it, he saw an image in the center that he says looks like the Virgin Mary. He plans to give the stone to his wife.

3. It must have been divine intervention
Him keeping that stone, as he was a tile cutter and all. Anyone else it would have stayed concealed within the stone at the bottom of the river.

5. Ah..... the Jacks Fork river, truly "gods country" if such a thing exists.
It is a beautiful area. Vacationed there many times during childhood summers, and my mother grew up in the same area. My mother, the epitome of an atheist, would love this story.

8. We were just there 2 years ago
It really is gorgeous. If gas wasn't so damned expensive, I would go back this summer.

9. Virgin? That's what she told everyone!
It's not just that it's silly to see images of icons in everything one sees, it's the very notion that anything said in the Bible could be any basis for the deification of Mary. Even if we assume the Biblical story is accurate to the last word, there's absolutely no basis for treating Mary, mother of Jesus, any differently from anyone else in the Bible. It's entirely based upon the early church adopting pagan rituals and icons to mainstream the religion.

God save us from the superstitious masses who believe this kind of nonsense, whichever fable or fairy tale they build their lives around.

10. Looks more like one of the Nazgul from LOTR
But hey, what do I know:shrug:

Love the Jack's Fork though, beautiful river to float on. I tend to stay away during the summer and "big" vacation days though, too many people on the river, especially the drunks, to really enjoy the natural beauty at that time of year.

13. How true!
We stopped going down on weekends a long time ago because of all the drunks.

But when we were there 2 years ago, we noticed the cops busting a lot of kids for underage drinking. One group floated by us with those obnoxious water cannons and drenched both of our canoes. Then we went around the next bend and saw them in handcuffs. I will admit we were glad to see that. :)

11. How do stories like this even get out?
If he was going to give it to his wife, did SHE tell the local news (or whoever) about it? Seems like this story should have stopped at the river.
