Mexico's Cheap Gas Draws American Drivers
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/15/mexicos-cheap-gas-draws-d_n_107189.html

SAN DIEGO — If there's pain at the pump in the U.S., Mexico may just have a remedy. A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in San Diego retails for an average price of $4.61 a gallon. A few miles south, in Tijuana, it's about $2.54 _ even less if you pay in pesos.

More and more people appear to be taking advantage of the lower price.

"I used to buy exclusively in the U.S. before gas started really going up," said Patrick Garcia, a drama teacher at an elementary school in San Diego who lives in Tijuana. "Since then, I've been buying all my gas in Tijuana."

The lower prices mean a U.S. motorist could save almost $54 filling up a two-year-old Ford F150 pickup with a 26-gallon fuel tank in Mexico.

Aaaahh... nothing like having a banana republic right next door. As long you don't let them contaminate your beautiful country, of course.

1. We are one fucked up country -
We're being told that we need to hate anything that has to do with Mexico and it's people.
After all, they are taking our country over with their lofty ambitions to take all our cleaning, landscaping, and restaurant jobs that every strapping American male can't wait to do.

But, when it comes time to back that hatred up with real actions, well we clearly see where they run don't we.
South - making a run to the border to buy their cheap gas.

They ought to have a two tired system in Tijuana.

Tijuana resident: $2.54 a gallon.
Gringos: $5.00 a gallon.

5. I thought our country was blaming the ME for our prices.
Where does Mexico get its gas? Why can't we get ours from the same source?

This is all bullshit - what the fuck are they doing to our country?

11. Ok there is something wrong to that story
I KNOW how much my mom pays for GAS in Mexico City and it is not that much cheaper... on a good month 10 cents

They must be confusing liters for gallons, serious

14. There are a lot of possible ways to explain the discrepancy besides the story being wrong....
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 02:20 PM by BlooInBloo
EDIT: And since they're quoting eyewitnesses, I think the burden of proof is not on the story.

15. Except I have filled gas tanks in Mexico City

17. that PEMEX has a national schedule, not a local schedule
So unless they have a special schedule for the border, which I never noticed when I worked in TJ as a medic... prices were the same as in the CIudad...

That is why I am going.... though that must have changed recently since even CNN is saying such
