Bill Would Ban Sale Of Foreign-Made American Flags
Bill Would Ban Sale Of Foreign-Made American Flags

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Lawmakers on Friday pondered a bill that would ban the sale of foreign-made American and Ohio flags.

"What this bill does is it says that no retailer in the state of Ohio can sell either U.S. or Ohio flags that were manufactured outside of the United States," said State Sen. Joy Padgett.

In Columbus, Mary Leavitt, the owner of the Flag Lady's Flag store, told 10TV that she supported the bill.

"When they're making that flag they have no idea what those stars and stripes mean," Leavitt said.

Leavitt said all the flags in her shop were made in the United States.

"When our manufacturers in the United States make our flags, I mean the flag code law even dictates how big the stripes should be for each size," Leavitt said.

After the past eight years, I would be aghast if I lived in another country and had to make US flags all day, yikes.

4. One of the biggest US flag makers is in Cincinnati. This is TOTAL election year self interest.

Completely a dog and pony show bill that affects nothing of any worth.

17. Why?
Would the state have the right to regulate the sale of foreign-manufactured handguns?

It's a weak argument.

31. international trade agreements requiring 'national' treatment
generally serve as a bar on local laws that protect domestic products over foreign made products. It would be impossible for the federal government to have a national trade policy if every city, town, county or state could pass its own protectionist laws.

8. And the Ohio Attorney General will set up a special task force
It will only cost Ohio taxpayers $20 million a year to maintain the Flag Enforcement Defense.
Their job will be to go around the state checking on every flag, making midnight raids on
bars, high schools, military installations, rigidly enforcing the purity of all American
flags seen in the State. Harsh penalties will be immediately imposed on violators. Firing
squads will accompany the Enforcement Defense to impose an immediate death penalty upon any
traitor who dares flaunt their lack of patriotism. The execution brigade of the F.E.D.
will be known as F.E.D.-Ex.

Let freedom ring!

14. Well, for one thing, it's a bill. So it has to come from an elected official.
Of course this is from Ohio, so "elected" may be a relative term.

Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 12:25 PM by seasat
If they will then I'm all for it. I can see the next talking head going on about who's not wearing their flag pin.

Blathering Talking Head: He's not wearing a flag pin therefore he is a lying pinko commie latte drinking liberal!

Officer: Excuse me, we're from the special unit on Contraband Reproductions of American Patriotic Paraphernalia.

Blathering Talking Head: What're you harassing me for? I'm wearing American Flag Underoos. I'm a true patriot.

Officer: We need to check the authenticity of your flag pin. Hmmmm, this one is made in China. Obviously, you're a terrorist sympathizer. Pack him off to GITMO, boys.

Blathering Talking Head: NOOOOOOOoooooooo!

;)
